Offense Erupts In Win Over Ripon

WINTER HAVEN, FLA. – The Brockport baseball offense exploded Wednesday morning for 13 runs, allowing them to defeat Ripon College 13-6. Ten different players recorded hits for the Green and Gold, combining for 16 knocks as a team.

The scoring got started for Brockport in the top of the third, when they exploded for six runs on five hits. With one out in the inning, Mike D'Eletto and Dane Cala ripped back-to-back singles and both advanced on a wild pitch. Avery Brooks was the next batter up, and knocked one of his three hits on the day, a single down the right field line that scored two.

Two straight walks to Anthony Eaton and Luke Gilbert loaded the bases for Nik Malachowski, who pulled a double down the left field line, scoring two more. Jack Wallwork drove in the final two runs of the inning, driving a single to right field that scored Gilbert and Malachowski.

Ripon scored three runs of their own in the bottom of the third to tie the game at 6-6, but Brockport didn't take long to regain the lead, recording runs in four of the next five innings to take firm control of the game.

Two singles with one out in the fifth put runners on the corners for Justin Valentino, who hit a fly ball to centerfield deep enough to allow Gilbert to tag up and score. The sixth inning run also came off a SAC fly, this time off the bat of Cala who drove in Drew DeBlasiis who had led off the inning with a triple.

Brockport was able to tack on two more in the seventh, when Wallwork drew a walk following a Valentino double, putting two on with two outs for D'Eletto, who hit a deep shot to left center, driving in both baserunners with the double.

Anthony Eaton got into the action in the top of the eighth with a double that put runners on second and third for Malachowski who knocked his fourth hit of the ballgame, a single to left center that scored two. The freshman ended his day four-for-five with two RBI and a run scored.

The pitching was divvied up between six Golden Eagles, who combined to allow just one earned run in the contest. Jimmy Lovelass picked up his second win of the season, throwing three scoreless while allowing just two hits and striking out a pair. Seve Kowalski, D'Eletto, and Nick Jerolimov teamed up for the final three innings, also holding Ripon scoreless and allowing just two hits combined.

Brockport will play in a JV contest tomorrow, before gearing up for a conference double-header against Plattsburgh on Friday, with first pitch schedule for 1:15 p.m. at Lake Myrtle Park.
