Offense Explodes For 20 Runs in Softball Sweep On the Final Day Of Gene Cusic Classic

FORT MYERS, FLA.- The College at Brockport softball team had a spark in their offense on Thursday as the Golden Eagles tallied 20 runs off of 28 hits to pick up a pair of wins. The Green and Gold improved to 7-5 on the season after downing Centenary College 10-2 in five innings and then doubled up North Central College winning by a score of 10-5.

Game One

To open the day, Brockport scored at least one run in every inning of the game. Jessica Koneski got things started in the first, connecting on a three run home run. The Cyclones answered, pushing across one run in the bottom of the frame.

The Golden Eagles added two more runs in the second, when Meghan Cullen singled home Alexis Ross, who had a knock earlier in the frame. Casey Danko posted the second run, coming around to score on a throwing error by the Centenary shortstop, putting Brockport up 5-1.

In the top of the third frame Ross singled through the right side and Alison Missavage came around to score. The Cyclones added one run in the home half of the inning, cutting Brockport's lead to 6-2.

Brockport tacked on three more runs in the fourth, highlighted by two long balls. First Lindsay Wachna blasted her first home run of the season, a solo shot to left center field. Two batters later, following a double by Koneski, Missavage hit a bomb over the left center field wall for her first home run of the season.

Wachna picked up her first win of the year, pitching a complete game, allowing two earned runs on five hits and striking out three.

Ross went 3-for-4 from the plate, scoring three runs and driving in one for the Golden Eagles. Koneski and Missavage each added three hits, while Wachna chipped in scoring two runs and recording three RBIs.

Game Two

In game two, Brockport saw North Central open the contest scoring twice, to jump out to a 2-0 advantage. The Golden Eagles took the lead in the bottom of the frame, when Missavage singled to left field, brining around Danko and Ross. Missavage later scored on a fielding error by the left fielder.

The Green and Gold added two more in the bottom of the second, as Danko got things started, hitting a sacrifice fly that scored Kathleen Laskey. Cullen was able to score on a wild pitch, giving the Golden Eagles a 5-2 lead.

Brockport put the game out of reach in the fifth inning, tallying four runs in the frame. Cullen delivered the major blow, a two RBI single, bringing home Taylor Parlet and Karleigh Eaton. Danko answered that with an RBI single putting the Golden Eagles ahead 10-4. North Central was able to get one back in the top of the sixth, but their comeback bid fell short.

Brockport was able to take advantage of six Cardinal errors. Ross continued her great spring trip, with three more hits, three runs scored and one RBI. Cullen, Danko and Missavage each added two RBIs, while Eaton and Parlet chipped in with two knocks apiece. North Central was able to get one back in the top of the sixth, however, the comeback bid fell short.

Becky Knorr picked up the victory improving to 2-1 on the season. The junior pitched four innings, allowing four runs on nine hits and striking out two. Amanda Colon went the final three frames, earning her first save of the season, while only allowing one earned run.
