Spindler Dominates In Win Over New Paltz

BROCKPORT, N.Y. – The Golden Eagle baseball team took the opening game of a three game set against New Paltz on Friday afternoon by a final score of 4-2. Austin Spindler was dominant once again, earning his fourth win of the season.

Both of New Paltz's runs came in the opening frame, as they were able to string together three straight hits after a leadoff walk. Despite the line, Spindler pitched well in the inning, as all three Hawk hits were weak ground balls through the right side of the infield.

It didn't take long for Brockport to even the score though, as they used a two out rally in the bottom half of the inning to score two runs of their own. After Paul Ludden was hit by a pitch, Lou Miceli came to the plate, and hammered his second homer of the season over the left field fence, evening the score.

Avery Brooks crossed the plate in the bottom of the third after leading off the inning with a single. After Ludden was hit by another pitch to move him to second, he came around to score when Tom Kretzler scorched a ground ball to the second baseman and reached on the error.

The final Brockport run came in the fourth, when Dane Cala drove in Luke Gilbert on an RBI groundout to second. Gilbert ended the day 2-for-4 at the plate, continuing his streak of hot hitting.

Spindlers final line on the day was eight innings with two runs on eight hits and three strikeouts. He pitched with extreme efficiency, forcing weak contact from the New Paltz hitters, often early in counts.

Nick Jerolimov continued to dominant from the closer position, earning his sixth save of the season after striking out two of the three hitters he faced. His six saves rank him first in the conference, and are tied for 16th in the nation.

Brockport will look to take two more games from New Paltz tomorrow when they square off in a doubleheader that includes a "hometown hero" celebration as well as senior day.
