Brockport Comes Back From Early Deficit to Win 9-3

VIRGINIA BEACH, VA—The College at Brockport baseball team came back from an early 3-0 deficit to win convincingly, 9-3, against Alfred State College. The victory moves the Golden Eagles to 2-2 on the season, while the Pioneers drop to 0-3.

The Green and Gold fell behind in the second inning after three hits led to three runs by the opposition, but the Brockport offense responded quickly. In the bottom of the inning, Liam O'Leary kicked off the offense by getting hit by a pitch before Anthony Eaton worked a walk to put runners on first and second. Austin Hall singled up the middle, scoring Eaton and O'Leary and cutting the deficit to just one.

Starting pitcher Alex Brown, worked an efficient third and fourth inning to give his offense a chance to claim the lead. O'Leary once again got the offense started by reaching second on an error by the opposition. Eaton then doubled down the left field line to score O'Leary and tie the game 3-3. Hall once again singled and earned the RBI as Eaton crossed home plate. The Green and Gold added to the lead after Drew Deblasiis tripled to left center to score Hall and bringing the lead to 5-3.

Hall recorded another RBI in the bottom of the sixth inning, singling up the middle once again and scoring O'Leary, who singled earlier in the inning. The Golden Eagles scored two more runs in the bottom of the seventh off the bat of Eaton yet again. Nicholas Pastore started the inning reaching on an error and then stole second before Tom Kretzler was intentionally walked. O'Leary singled again, before the Eaton double scored two runs and brought the lead to 9-3.

Brown continued his positive momentum by getting out six of the next seven batters that he faced and finished with the win, going 6.0 innings, striking out seven, while allowing three runs on three hits. Maddux Minton came out of the bullpen and threw 3.0 innings of no-hit baseball, striking out five of the ten batters he faced.

After today's double header, Brockport will travel to Mount Saint Mary College for a 4 p.m. first pitch time.
