OSWEGO, N.Y.— Head coach
Justin Beach stamped his place in the Brockport record books on Friday, picking up his 254th career win to become the all-time wins leader as a coach at The College at Brockport. The baseball team traveled to Oswego State to battle against an impressive No. 19 ranked Laker team. After losing the game one 14-4, the Golden Eagles earned an important 4-1 win over the State University of New York Athletic Conference (SUNYAC) foe to give Beach the out-right win leader honor. With the split, Brockport hold a 13-13 overall record and a 7-6 conference mark, while Oswego sit at 18-8 on the season and 8-3 in SUNYAC games.
Game 1: Loss 14-4
The Green and Gold got on the board first after
Anthony Eaton drove in
Nik Malachowski with a single up the middle that gave the team a 1-0 lead. Unfortunately, the lead was short lived as the opposition knocked in four runs in the bottom of the inning. Brockport continued to battle despite the deficit and knocked in another run in the top of the sixth with
Liam O'Leary scoring on an error by the Lakers. Two more runs crossed home plate in the eighth innings after another Eaton single scored O'Leary and fielder's choice by
Justin LaRosa was enough to bring in Malachowski.
O'Leary finished game one hitting 3-for-4 with two runs scored and Eaton hit 3-for-4 as well, recording two RBI.
Game 2: Win 4-1
The Golden Eagles grabbed the lead in the top of the second inning when
Justin Valentino singled through the right side, which allowed
Austin Hall and Malachowski to touch home plate.
Tom Kretzler knocked in another pair of runs for Brockport, driving a two-run homerun to right center and bring the lead to 4-0.
Sam McCumiskey continued his recent string of performances, recording a complete game, one-run win. After an Oswego single in the second innings, the senior sat down 13 consecutive batters heading into the seventh to maintain the lead. After battling adversity in the final inning, McCumiskey was able to hold strong and lead his team to a 4-1 victory.
Brockport play the third game of the series against Oswego on Saturday, April 14 at Union Endicott High School.
