The College at Brockport men's soccer team edged off Plattsburgh State on Friday for a crucial State University of New York Athletic Conference (SUNYAC) win, 2-1.
Â
The victory moves Brockport to a 6-2-0 record and 1-0 mark in SUNYAC play. The
Cardinals fall to 2-4-2 on the year and 0-1 in league play.
The Cardinals struck first in this matchup. After a few fouls early on, Plattsburgh found the back of the net 12' minutes into play for the go-ahead, 1-0. The Golden Eagles would not let that early goal affect them, as they battled hard throughout the half. Freshman goal-scorer Ayu Jeylani tested the Cardinals net-minder with a few shots in the first half, but the Golden Eagles were left scoreless after the first 45.
The Green and Gold came out with energy in the second half, it wasn't long until the Brockport offense found the scoresheet. At the 49' minute
Jeff Hibbard scored his fifth of the 2018 campaign off of a passing play from Jeylani, tying the game at one goal apiece. The two clubs were evenly matched as the match progressed, both teams coming up with solid scoring opportunities. Then in the 85' minute of the game, the goal-scoring tandem was at it again, when Hibbard found the back of the net after a threaded pass from Jeylani, sealing the game for the Golden Eagles, 2-1.
"A tremendous win on the road today," said head coach Gary Lapietra "The boys played with passion intensity and intelligence, I was so impressed with our players today as they competed for a full 90 minutes."
The Green and Gold are back in action tomorrow, Saturday Sept. 22 when they travel to SUNY Postdam for a 1 p.m. matchup.
