BROCKPORT, N.Y.- The Brockport men's ice hockey team (3-1) is locked and loaded for two more SUNYAC matchups this weekend. Their first tilt is on the road at nationally-ranked No. 3 Oswego (3-0) on Friday at 7 p.m. They'll then head back home for a 4 p.m. start time versus Cortland (2-3) on Saturday.
Rally Towel Giveaway: Saturday's home game against Cortland will have a special gift for some lucky fans. The first 100 fans in the arena will receive a free rally towel sponsored by Next Level Barber Shop, which is located right on Main Street in Brockport.
USCHO.com National Poll: The Golden Eagles received nine votes and are the seventh team listed in the latest USCHO.com National Poll. Oswego moved up three spots this week and currently ranks No. 3 in the nation.
Past Weekend Summary: The Golden Eagles hosted their home opener along with Senior night and the Shatter the Stigma event last Friday against Morrisville. They shut out the Mustangs that night, outscoring them 6-0. Brockport's goals came from five different players, including two from defenseman
Anthony Hora along with an assist.
Connor Hutchins finished the night with four points of his own and won 18 of his 21 faceoffs taken. Saturday, the Green and Gold fell to Morrisville 4-1, their lone goal coming from
Jordan Renaud. Goaltender
Matt Schneider received both starts and finished with a total of 21 saves.
Green and Gold Team Statistics: Brockport is currently led in points by
Doc Gentzler with seven, including two goals and five assists. 10 other players have recorded a point or more in just two weekends, exemplifying the team's offensive prowess. Hora also leads the team with two game-winning goals, while fellow D-man
Ryan Romeo leads in plus/minus at plus four. Schneider is averaging a .921 save percentage and is the only goaltender to have seen action this season. Brockport is also averaging almost 28 shots per game and has found the back of the net a total of 13 times.
Undefeated Oswego: The Lakers have captured wins against Cortland, Plattsburg, and Potsdam this season, all at their home arena and have managed 17 goals in just the three games played. Sophomore Travis Brougham currently leads the Lakers with five points overall, including two goals and three assists. All but three players on the team have recorded a point so far this year. 2014 was the last year Brockport was able to best Oswego, when they picked up a win on the road 3-2.
Cortland Scouting Report: The Red Dragons picked up their first win of the 2019-2020 season against the Potsdam Bears, finishing 4-2. They've played two games on the road so far this year, splitting the results for a 1-1 record away from home. Most recently the team defeated Lebanon Valley, 4-3, bouncing back after a loss to Plattsburgh at home. Their offense is led by forwards Ethan Homitz and Stefano Alonzi. Homitz tops the team with seven points from four goals and three assists, while Alonzi has five points on one goal and four assists. Last time these two teams met Brockport defeated Cortland, 5-1, with the help of
Jordan Renaud's three points. In the past five times the teams matched up Brockport has come away with three victories.
What Comes Next: The following weekend Brockport will again split games between home and away. First, the team will meet Fredonia on the road for a 7 p.m. Friday matchup. On Saturday, Buffalo State will come to Tuttle Ice Arena for another SUNYAC competition starting at 4 pm.
