Golden Eagles post strong offensive day with 24 total runs

FORT MEYERS, FLA. –The College at Brockport continued their hot streak at the plate, securing a one and one record on the day against North Central College and Crown College. The Golden Eagles battled against a powerhouse Cardinals team but couldn't contain their offense long enough to secure the win, however had a dominating performance against the Storm in their second meeting.

INSIDE THE MATCHUP – 
  • The Golden Eagles performance in day three helps them improve to a 4-2 record.  
  • Crown College saw back to back defeats, moving them to 3-7 overall while North Central improved to a perfect 8-0 record.
HOW IT HAPPENED – 

Game 1
  • The Golden Eagles found themselves at a quick deficit, trailing the Cardinals 4-0 after two.
  • Tori Thuman led off the third inning with a single up the middle, followed by a single from Alexis Ross.
  • Meghan Cullen put the Green and Gold on the board with a single to right center, scoring Thuman.
  • Casey Danko then nailed a double to left center to score Ross. Alison Missavage added to the momentum, collecting an RBI on a choppy hit to the second basemen allowing Cullen to reach home.
  • The third inning changed the tide for the Green and Gold when Flamholtz hit a bouncy single up the middle, forcing an error by the center fielder to advance to third, scoring both Jessica Koneski and Danko to put Brockport up 5-4.
  • The Cardinals added a quick run in the bottom of the third to tie it at five. The score would remain that way until the sixth inning when the Cardinals strung together a few key hits, securing their fate 7-5. 
Game 2
  • Game two moved the Golden Eagles back into their groove as they were eager to pick up a win on the day.
  • The Green and Gold notched five hits and four runs in the top of the first.
  • Lexi Abernathy and Cullen occupied the bases from the beginning, setting Danko up for an RBI with her double to left center. Aren Schwab then got up and placed one in center to score Danko.
  • Kacie Hubbard followed with a rocket at the third basemen, forcing an error that allowed Schwab and Flamholtz to score and allowed her to move to third base.
  • Hubbard then scored on a passed ball, securing a 5-0 lead to start the game.
  • Flamholtz and Schwab made it 7-0 in the second inning with their key ball placement with runners in scoring position.
  • Even though the Storm were able to pick up a run, the Golden Eagles just used the third inning to open up the gap even more.
  • Machala Andrews led off with a single to right field and then advanced to third on back to back pass balls to Abernathy.
  • With Andrews and Abernathy now on base, Cullen added another hard hit RBI single to right field, scoring Andrews.
  • Koneski then helped clear the bases with a double to the same spot, scoring Abernathy and Cullen to make the lead 10-1.
  • By the end of the third inning the Golden Eagles had worn out the Storms pitcher, securing a 12-1 lead off a single to left from Hubbard and a walk with bases loaded by Andrews to score pinch runner, Sarah Mahar.
  • Cullen and Danko opened up the fourth with back-to-back doubles to left center, followed by a single from Lauren Nash and a double from Justice Colvin, moving the Green and Golds number to 16.
  • The Golden Eagles sealed the deal in the fifth, adding three more runs off of five hits from Cullen, Danko, Mandi Lucas, Mahar, and Colvin, kicking in the run rule to end the game 19-6.
 
KEY STATISTICS – 
 
Game 1
  • Cullen led the offense in game one, notching two hits in her four at bats while adding a run and an RBI.
  • Danko, Ross, Koneski and Thuman each added a hit and a run as well.
Game 2
  • Cullen dominated the second game as well, going 4-for-4 at the plate with four runs and an RBI.
  • Danko had a standout performance as well, finishing 3-for-4 with four runs and an RBI.
  • The Golden Eagles finished game two with 19 runs, 18 hits, and 17 RBI.
UP NEXT – 
  • Tomorrow the Golden Eagles will meet two new opponents as they are set to face Knox College at 11 a.m. followed by the University of Minnesota Morris at 1 p.m.
