Brockport Takes Both Games Of Double Header

FREDONIA, N.Y. – The College at Brockport baseball team took two-of-three against Fredonia State in what was a very important series against a State University of New York Athletic Conference (SUNYAC) foe. The score of the first game was 4-2, and the second game ended with a final of 10-3. 
 
INSIDE THE MATCHUP – 
·       The Golden Eagles sit at 12-16 overall and 6-9 in conference competition.
·       The Blue Devils move to 10-16 on the season and 7-5 in SUNYAC play.
 
HOW IT HAPPENED – 
Game One: Win, 4-2
 
·      The Blue Devils jumped out to a 2-0 lead in the third inning.
·      The first four innings of the game saw quiet bats for the Green and Gold, but they came up big in the fifth frame.
·      After a double by Liam O'Leary, Tom Kretzler sent a ball over the fence for a two-run homerun to tie the game at 2-2.
·      Lou Miceli was hit by a pitch a batter later and Anthony Eaton singled to put two runners on. 
·      Daniel DelGaizo did his job by moving the runners over and gave Aaron Cook the opportunity to single and drive in two runs to give the team a 4-2 advantage. 
·      Trevor McCarthy was effective on the mound, tossing a complete game and shutting out the opposition after the third inning.
 
 Game Two: Win, 10-3
 
·      Cook was able to get Brockport on the board in the second inning with an RBI single that scored Miceli.
·      In the fourth inning, Cook once again recorded a timely hit with his second RBI single of the day that once against scored Miceli.
·      The Blue Devils responded in the bottom of the inning with a run of their own to cut the score to 2-1.
·      The Green and Gold tacked on in the fifth inning, starting with a wild pitch that allowed Nicholas Pastore to cross home plate.
·      Miceli continued the momentum with an RBI single that brought in Ryan Mansell, before O'Leary doubled and made the score 5-1.
·      The sixth inning saw the offensive success continue with Pastore driving in two runs with a single to push the advantage to 7-1.
·      Charlie Serino took advantage of the catcher throwing to second base, and stole home to give Brockport an 8-1 lead. 
·      Cook continued his hot hitting with a two-run home run in the seventh inning, bringing the score to 10-1. 
·      Brandon Greenspan earned the victory after tossing 5.2 innings of one run baseball. 
·      Stuart Martin closed it out with 3.1 innings of good pitching, giving the team a 10-3 final victory. 
 
KEY GAME STATISTICS – 
Game One: Win, 4-2
 
·      Kretzler finished the day going 2-for-3 with two RBI, one run scores and one walk.
·      DelGaizo, Cook and O'Leary each finished with two hits.
·      Cook added two RBI, while O'Leary scored a run. 
 
Game Two: Win, 10-3
 
·      Miceli was strong as the designated hitter, going 3-for-4 with four runs scores and one RBI.
·      Cook finished the second game with a phenomenal 5-for-5, scoring two runs while recording four RBI. 
·      Greenspan now holds a 2-2 record after tossing 5.2 innings, allowing one run on five hits, three walks and six strikeouts. 
·      This was Martin's sixth appearance and he pitched the remaining 3.1 innings, giving up two runs on three hits and one walk, while striking out four. 
 
UP NEXT – 
·       Brockport returns home on Tuesday, April 16 when they host St. John Fisher College for a non-conference battle. First pitch is scheduled for 4 p.m.
