BROCKPORT, N.Y.- The nationally-ranked No. 24 Brockport men's soccer takes the field again Wednesday at 4 p.m., for its fifth matchup of the young seaosn. The Golden Eagles will hit the road to take on the St. John Fisher Cardinals, who are currently searching for their first win of the year.
WHAT HAPPENED LAST: The Green and Gold once again demonstrated their team-oriented strategy, capturing a win against Elmira College, 2-0. Great plays were made on both sides of the ball and the familiar Brockport proficiency has clearly returned for another season. The goals came in the first half from
Jason Hayes and
Jeff Hibbard. Brockport dominated play the entire contest as they out shot the Soaring Eagles 22-3 and secured a 10-2 advantage in corner kick opportunities.
HEATING UP:The Golden Eagles continued their hot streak by securing their third win in a row. As both the offense gains momentum so does the goaltending, now proud owners of two shutouts in their last three games.
THE HISTORY: This will be the tenth year in a row that the two teams have met. Brockport leads the series 6-2-1 and their 2018 bout finished with an impressive 4-1 Golden Eagle victory. Hibbard had a goal and an assist of his own, sealing the fate of the Cardinals. Now senior goalkeeper,
Tautis Poniskaitis, started in net and kept Fisher off the board by making two saves.
SCOUTING REPORT: St. John Fisher men's soccer holds a record of 0-4. Their last loss came by the hands of Oswego St., 7-1. Ishaan Kashyap and Justin Bonetto lead the team in points with two apiece. Sophomore goalkeeper Aaron Smith leads with 16 saves.
TEAM STATISTICS: Brockport is tied for second in goals (14) and shot percentage (.230) as well as third in assists (11) in the SUNYAC.
Matthew Stefaniw is also tied for third in individual shots with 12 and
DJ Taylor is tied for first in game winning goals with two in just four matches. Brockport has outscored its opponents 14-4 and out shot them 61-21.
WHAT'S NEXT:The Green and Gold will be back home for their next match against Medaille College on Friday at 7 p.m.
