BROCKPORT, N.Y. – SUNY Brockport's swimming and diving teams are getting ready to host their final regular season meet this Saturday against conference opponent Fredonia at 1 p.m. Being that it is their last meet before SUNYAC Championships, the Golden Eagles will also honor their five seniors during the meet for their hard work and dedication to the program.
Looking Back: In the 2018-2019 season, the Golden Eagles and the Blue Devils met on three separate occasions. The Green and Gold opened up the year at the Fredonia Tri-Meet with Ithaca College, followed with a fourth and fifth place finish at the Fredonia Invitational, and a split in their final dual match with the Blue Devils.
Buffalo State Blowout: The Golden Eagles are coming off a dominant weekend against the Bengals where both the men's and women's teams recorded a win. The men's team passed the Bengals by a 180-106 margin, picking up their fourth overall win and third in conference. The women's team posted an equally impressive outing in the pool, passing the Bengals by over 100 points for a 197-65 finish. The win was the women's fifth of the season and third in conference.
The Green and Gold saw standout performances in the pool in a number of different events including the 200-medley relay teams, the 1000-freestyle, 100 and 200-backstroke, 100 and 200-breaststroke, 50-freestyle and more.
Not only did the Golden Eagles have a strong team finish but they also saw a number of different swimmers who posted double and triple wins. For the men's team, some of these winners included
Matthew Dambra (100, 200 and 500 freestyle),
Logan Gregory (200-medley relay, 100 and 200-backstroke, and 200-IM) and
Oliver Dragojevic (200-medley relay, 100 and 200- breaststroke). On the women's end, the multi-winners included
Allison Morrow (200-medley, 100 and 200-breaststroke and 200 IM),
Nicole Orcutt (200-freestyle, 100 and 200-butterfly),
Rebekah Wilkinson (200-medley relay, 50 and 100-freestyle) and
Kaitlin Dunning (500 and 1000-freestyle).
The divers also swept the leader board on both ends, securing the top finishes in both the 1-meter and 3-meter dives. In the men's 3-meter dive, the Golden Eagles took three of the four leader board spots. The top finishers included
Randy Beach in first with 244.45,
Mark Eaton in second with 235.45 and
Kurt Mueller in third with a score of 203.20. Eaton was then the solo top finisher in the 1-meter dive with a score of 250.80.
The women grabbed the top three spots in the 1-meter dive with a strong outing from Lexi Foster,
Sami Cohen and Moira Kurak. Foster posted first with a score of 236.95, Cohen finished second with a score 168.90 and Kurak in third with a score of 165.95. In the 3-meter dive, Foster and Cohen took first and second with scores of 176.10 and 168.50.
Senior Day: The Golden Eagles will honor their five seniors on Saturday including
Rainer Grimme,
Haley Brucato, Dunning,
Dee Logory and Wilkinson.
The Next Step: After this weekend, the Golden Eagles will travel to Buffalo, N.Y. for the SUNYAC Championships which will run from Wednesday, Feb. 19 until Saturday, Feb. 22.
