Brockport, NY – The SUNY Brockport men's hockey team is on the road Tuesday night for the final regular season away game of the year. The team heads to Cortland for a SUNYAC battle that will affect seeding for the upcoming conference tournament. Game is set to begin at 6 pm.
Clinched: Last weekend the Golden Eagles defeated Buffalo State on the road, 2-0, officially clinching their spot in the SUNYAC Tournament. The win put the team at 14-8-1 overall and 7-6-1 in the conference standings.
Ryan Romeo netted his 10
th goal of the season, while
Jeremy Solat also found the back of the net.
Matt Schneider made 22 saves in the contest, as Brockport earns its way back to the SUNYAC Tournament for the second straight year.
Record Watch: After getting the win in net against Buffalo State in his last outing,
Matt Schneider is officially tied with the program record of 29 wins for a career. A win against Cortland on Tuesday or Geneseo in the regular season finale will make him the program's all-time leader for wins in a career. The senior goaltender will also have a chance to build on his record wins tally in the SUNYAC Tournament.
SUNYAC Standings: Heading into Tuesday's matchup, the Green and Gold hold the third spot in the SUNYAC standings. Geneseo is locked in at the one seed, while Oswego has clinched the number two seed for the conference tournament. Brockport and Buffalo State have both earned a spot in the postseason, but final seeding is still not decided. Brockport could host a first round SUNYAC game if it is to earn the third or fourth seed.
Road Warriors: The Golden Eagles have proven throughout the season their ability to win on the road, and demonstrated it again with a big win over Buffalo State last weekend. The team currently owns an away record of 9-3 on the year before traveling to face Cortland. Winning on the road once again will lock up a home game for the first round of the conference tournament.
Scouting Cortland: The Red Dragons are currently 12-9-1 overall and 5-8 in conference play. They have won two straight games coming into Tuesday's contest, defeating Canton and Elmira in non-conference action. Sitting in the sixth slot in the SUNYAC Standings, Cortland is still looking to punch its ticket to the tournament with three games left to play. Brockport defeated Cortland, 2-1, earlier this season thanks to a last second goal by
Jordan Renaud in the third period.
Spirit Bracelet Night Ahead: The Golden Eagles will be at home on Saturday night for their final game of the regular season. Its Pura Vita Spirit Bracelet Night, sponsored by Bittersweet Brockport, as the first 100 students with a Brockport I.D. will receive a bracelet upon entry.
