The SUNY Brockport baseball team extended its win streak to seven games on Wednesday after a doubleheader sweep of visiting RIT at the Clark V. Whited Complex. The Golden Eagle pitching staff ruled the day as it combined to hold the Tigers to just five hits and one run over the course of two games. Brockport won game one by the score of 2-1 and the Golden Eagles' pitching staff combined for a one-hit shutout in game two to earn the 3-0 victory.
Matt O'Dair extended his hitting streak to 11 games and finished the day going 3-for-5 with two RBI's and one run scored. Shortstop
Justin Pangburn went 1-for-3, scoring two runs and he added two walks in the doubleheader.
Brockport's record moved to 10-2 overall and the Golden Eagles are now 7-1 at home. RIT's record dropped to 4-11 on the season. The Golden Eagles will hit the road for six straight games beginning with a doubleheader back at Fredonia on Saturday (12 p.m.). Brockport is currently 4-0 against the Blue Devils this season.
Brockport 2, RIT 1 – Game One Final
Starting pitcher
Andrew Huffman went 5.2 innings and allowed just one run on four hits while striking out six in his third victory of the season.
O'Dair singled and scored Pangburn in the bottom of the third inning to start the scoring for the Golden Eagles. Centerfielder
Nicholas Pastore then drove in O'Dair after he doubled to left field to give Bport a 2-0 lead in the bottom of the third.
RIT was able to get one run back in the top of the fourth to make the score 2-1, but that was as close as the Tigers would get as the Brockport pitching staff closed out the contest.
Nicholas Lawlor came on in relief of Huffman in the sixth inning and got Brockport out of a jam, before
Colin Pytlak took the mound in the top of the seventh inning to earn the save for the Golden Eagles.
Ryan Mansell finished game one going 1-for-2 at the plate, while
Ryan Voight also added a hit of his own. Pastore finished game one going 2-for-3 with an RBI and O'Dair added one hit.
Brockport 3, RIT 0 – Game Two Final
Starting pitcher
Kobie Punchard allowed just one hit and struck out one in 4.2 innings of work as the Golden Eagles earned the 3-0 game two victory.
Matt McGowan came on in relief and struck out one to earn the save for Brockport.
Ryan Mansell tripled in the bottom of the third to score Pangburn to give Brockport a 1-0 lead early in the contest.
Tom Kretzler followed with an RBI double to score Mansell and the Golden Eagles led 2-0 through three full innings of play.
O'Dair added an insurance run in the bottom of the sixth inning, scoring
Daniel DelGaizo, to give the green and gold a 3-0 lead late in the contest.
Mansell finished game two with one hit, one run and one RBI. O'Dair went 2-for-3 with an RBI and a walk in game two, while Pangburn added one hit and one run scored.
