Brockport Rolls Past Fredonia; Improves to 5-1 in SUNYAC Play

The Brockport baseball team wrapped up the sweep of Fredonia and improved to 6-2 overall and 5-1 in SUNYAC Conference play after two convincing wins over the Blue Devils at the Clark V. Whited Complex on Friday.  Brockport won game one 16-10 and completed the sweep with a 14-6 game two victory.

Matt O'Dair extended his hitting streak to seven games as he went 5-for-7 with five RBI's and three runs scored on the afternoon.  The five hits included four doubles.  Tom Kretzler went 3-for-5 at the plate with four runs scored and four RBI's. Kretzler hit two home runs in game one and also pitched 6.0 innings and struck out seven in game two to earn the victory.

Daniel DelGaizo was 2-for-7 on the day and posted two RBI's and two runs scored.

Brockport returns home on Saturday when it hosts St. John Fisher College. First pitch is scheduled for 12:30 p.m. Sunday's doubleheader against Cazenovia has been postponed as the forecast calls for heavy rain.

Brockport 16, Fredonia 10 – Game One Final

The Golden Eagles scored 10 runs in the bottom of the first inning to set the tone for a game one victory.

Ryan Mansell got the Golden Eagle bats going in the first when his triple scored James Houlahan to knot the score at 1-1. DelGaizo then singled home Mansell to give Brockport a 2-1 lead they would not relinquish.  Matt O'Dair and Trevor McCarthy were then each hit by a pitch with the bases loaded and Houlahan followed with a walk to make the score 5-1 in favor of the Golden Eagles.  Mansell then cleared the bases on an error by the second basemen and Kretzler capped the 10-run first inning with a two-run home run to hand the Golden Eagles the early 10-1 lead.

O'Dair hit a sacrifice fly in the second inning and Kretzler homered again in the third to give Bport a commanding 13-2 lead after three full innings.

Brockport would tack on three more late runs to earn the six run victory.  Brian Tietjen made his collegiate debut count as he blasted a solo shot over the left field fence in the eighth inning for the Golden Eagles.

Andrew Huffman got the start on the mound for Brockport and he pitched five full innings, scattering five runs while striking out five to earn his second win of the season.  Dylan Hillabush came on in relief and was nearly perfect through three innings.  Hillabush did not allow a hit and struck out two.  Cooper Meldrim pitched the final inning and struck out two for Brockport.

Mansell finished game one going 1-for-3 with three runs scored.  Kretzler went 2-for-4 with three RBI's, while Jake Sisto went 1-for-2 with two runs scored.  DelGaizo finished game one going 2-for-4.

Brockport 14, Fredonia 6 – Game Two Final

Brockport scored 11 runs in the first three innings of game two to essentially seal the eight run victory.  Kretzler went 1-for-1 at the plate with two runs scored and an RBI. He was also the game two winner on the mound as he went six full innings and struck out seven Blue Devils.

James Houlahan finished game two going 2-for-3 at the plate with three RBI's and two runs scored.  Ryan Mansell went 2-for-2 with three runs scored and one RBI in game two.  Ryan Voight added a 2-for-3 day with three RBI's in the night cap.
