The SUNY Brockport baseball team lost both games on day one against top-seeded and host SUNY Cortland in the semifinals of the SUNYAC Conference Tournament on Saturday. Brockport lost game one 11-4 and game two 3-1.The Golden Eagles have been eliminated from the conference tournament and will now await a potential at-large bid into the NCAA Division III Baseball Tournament.
Brockport, ranked No. 3 in the latest NCAA Division III New York Region rankings, Â saw its record fall to 18-7 overall, while nationally-ranked No. 22 Cortland improved to 25-5.Â
Tom Kretzler finished the day going 3-for-8 with one run scored and one RBI. He also struck out four and held the Red Dragons to just six hits in game two.Â
Ryan Voight finished the day going 4-for-7 at the plate.Â
#22 Cortland 11, Brockport 4 – Game One Final
Brockport lost game one 11-4. Cortland jumped out to a 6-0 lead over the course of the first four innings of game one. The Golden Eagles put a scare into the Red Dragons when they made it a 6-4 ball game in the top of the fifth inning. Kretzler got Brockport going when he singled home
James Houlahan for their first run of the contest.Â
Daniel DelGaizo then double to right field and scored Kretzler and
Ryan Mansell.Â
Nicholas Pastore then drove a single to the left side to score DelGaizo, bringing Brockport to within just two runs of the home team.Â
Kretzler finished game one going 3-for-5 at the plate with one RBI and one run scored.Â
Ryan Voight added two hits, while Pastore posted two hits and one RBI. Mansell and DelGaizo each added one hit.Â
Cortland answered with five runs over the course of the next 2.0 innings to essentially seal seven run game-one victory.Â
Andrew Huffman got the start on the mound for the Golden Eagles and he went 3.1 innings, striking out one.Â
Kyle Canavally relived Huffman and struck out two in 2.0 innings of work.Â
Nicholas Lawlor and
Dylan Hillabush finished the contest on the mound for the Golden Eagles, combining to allow just three hits while holding Cortland scoreless in their final two at-bats.Â
#22 Cortland 3, Brockport 1 – Game Two Final
The Golden Eagles lost 3-1 in game two. Cortland jumped out to a 3-0 lead through four innings and their pitching staff was solid all day as they held the high powered Golden Eagle offense to just one run.Â

Nicholas Pastore in the top of the seventh to make it a 3-1 ball game.Â
Trevor McCarthy was nearly flawless in relief of Kretzler as he allowed just one hit. Kretzler struck out four as his record moved to 3-2 on the year.Â
