Geneseo Takes Two From Brockport in Season Finale

The SUNY Brockport softball team closed out its 2021 campaign with a pair of losses at home against visiting SUNY Geneseo on Thursday.  The Knights topped the Golden Eagles 6-2 in game one and came back with a 6-3 victory in game two to earn the SUNYAC doubleheader sweep.

Brockport capped its season with a 7-9 overall ledger.  Geneseo (12-8) has punched its ticket to the SUNYAC Conference Tournament and will continue its season this weekend when it hosts Oneonta.

Kacie Hubbard finished her collegiate career going 3-for-7 with one RBI and one run scored on the day, while catcher Jenna Downey blasted her first collegiate home run in game two for Bport. Annie Dipirro went 2-for-5 and Emma DeJesus went 2-for-4 with one run scored over the course of the doubleheader.

Geneseo 6, Brockport 2 – Game One Final
 
Brockport got on the board in the first inning of game one when Dipirro reach on an error by the left fielder, scoring Olivia Hayden on the play to hand the Golden Eagles the early 1-0 advantage. 

Geneseo answered with five runs over the course of two innings to take a 5-1 lead by the end of the fourth inning. The Knight's game-winning push was highlighted by a three-run homer from Audrey Minton. 

Hubbard singled in the fifth, scoring DeJesus, to make it a 5-2 game.  That was as close as the Golden Eagles would get in the four run loss. 

Catherine Johnson pitched a complete game and struck out two. She finished the season with a 5-3 record on the mound for Brockport. 

DeJesus, Dipirro and Hubbard all posted two hits to lead the way for Brockport in game one. 

Geneseo 6, Brockport 3 – Game Two Final
 
The Knights jumped out to a 5-0 lead over the course of the first three and a half innings of game two.  Brockport would not go down without a fight as Morgan Skpowski singled and scored Hubbard to start the fourth inning scoring for the Golden Eagles.  Downey followed with a two-run home run and the score stood at 5-3 after 4.0 full innings of action. 

Geneseo secured the victory with an insurance run in the fifth inning to earn the three run win in game two. 

Julia Palopoli pitched four innings and struck out two in her final outing in the green and gold.  Macy Kane relieved Palopoli and did not allow a single run in her final game on the mound. 

Hayden, Amanda Blakely, Hubbard, Skpowski and Downey each record one hit for the Golden Eagles in game two.
