Ice Hockey Ready for Return of SUNYAC Action; Will Travel to Potsdam & Plattsburgh this Weekend

Brockport, N.Y. – The SUNY Brockport men's ice hockey team (12-5, 5-3) will travel to New York's north country to resume SUNYAC play against SUNY Potsdam (2-14, 1-9) and Plattsburgh State (10-6-3, 6-3-1). Currently on a four game winning streak, Brockport will look to tie this season's longest winning streak of five games. On Friday January 28th Brockport will face the Bears before heading to Plattsburgh to take on the Cardinals om Saturday January 29th both games are set for 7:00 p.m. puck drops.
 
Weekend Recap
The Golden Eagles battled the SUNY Canton Kangaroos (6-8-1) over this past weekend in a home and home weekend two game series. On Friday night Brockport soared past visiting SUNY Canton in a lopsided 7-2 victory. Six different Golden Eagle's scored in the game as eight of Brockport's skaters recorded assists. Sophomore forward Andrew Harley recorded a career high four points on two goals and two assists in Brockport's big win. Connor Galloway and Ryan Romeo each recorded three points on one goal and two assist while Anthony Hora earned two points on a goal and assist in the game.
 
The following night at SUNY Canton, the Golden Eagles stretched their current winning streak to four games after defeating the Kangaroos 3-1. Harley recorded two goals and one assist being a contributing factor in each of the Golden Eagles goals. Connor Galloway earned two assists in the game as Hora, Romeo and Jacob King each tallied assist too.
 
Weekly Awards
It was no surprise when Andrew Harley was named this week's SUNYAC Prestosports Men's Ice Hockey Rookie of the Week as he recorded seven points on four goals and three assists. Scoring the game winning goal in both matchups against SUNY Canton, Harley has now earned the Rookie of the Week award twice this season. In the SUNYAC, Harley is tied for third in points (22), ranked third in assists (13) and tied for fifth in goals with Romeo and Jacob King (9). In the country, Harley ranks tied for 22nd in the nation in points, tied for 29th in the nation in assists and tied for 39th in the nation in goals.
 
Co-Captain Ryan Romeo earned his third SUNYAC Prestosports Men's Ice Hockey Athlete of the Week award after tallying four points onto his team high 29 points this year. scoring a total of one goal and three assists, Romeo finished his four point weekend adding a total of +5 to his plus/minus stat. Ryan Romeo is having an unbelievable year as he leads the SUNYAC in points (29), assists (20), plus/minus (+22) amongst all skaters while leading defensemen in goals (9), power-play goals (4) and empty-net goals (1). In the nation Romeo ranks fourth in points, third in assists, tied for 18th in power-play goals and tied for 39th in goals.
 
Honorable Mentions
Freshman Jacob King currently ranks fifth in the SUNYAC in points (21), tied for fifth in goals (9) and tied for fourth in assists (12). In the country he ranks tied for 27th in points, tied for 39th in goals and tied for 45th in the country in assists.
 
Connor Galloway is currently tied with King in two categories as the rookie duo both share 12 assists and are tied for fourth in plus/minus as the two both have both recorded a plus/minus of +14 leading all forwards in the conference.
 
Amongst defensemen, Anthony Hora is tied for sixth in the SUNYAC in points (12) seventh in assists (10) and tied for seventh in plus/minus (+10).
 
In net, Nolan Egbert (9-3) ranks third in the conference in save percentage (.940), goals against average (1.68) and fifth in minutes in net (714:25). In the nation Egberts save percentage ranks him eighth in the country with his goals against average putting him ninth at ninth in the nation.
In net at backup, junior goaltender Aidan Curry (3-3) is posting a goal against average of 2.22 with a save percentage of .920 in six games this season.
 
Looking at Potsdam
The last time the Bears and Golden Eagles faced came back on November 12th when Brockport hosted Potsdam and shutout the Bears in a 3-0 victory. Mitchell Parson and Jacob King each scored power-play goals while Connor Galloway scored an even strength goal all in the second period of the game. Nolan Egbert recorded his second shutout of the season while making a total of 25 saves in the game. In Potsdam's most recent game it saw them defeat SUNY Cortland 3-1, the team's first conference wins all season. Robert Clerc currently leads all of Potsdam's scoring categories ranking first on the team in goals (3), assists (5) & points (8). Splitting an even amount of time in net for the Bears have been Connor Green (1-6) and Michael Paglucca (1-6). Paglucca was in goal for the first matchup against Brockport and has allowed a total of 23 goals averaging 3.30 goals allowed per game while making 169 saves with a .848 save percentage while spending a total of 418:34 in goal. Green has posted a 4.06 goals against average allowing 28 goals this season with a slightly higher saver percentage over his counterpart making 268 saves with a .905 sv%.
 
Looking at Plattsburgh
November 13th was the last time the Golden Eagles and Cardinals faced off against each other which saw Brockport win 7-3. Seven different Golden Eagles scored in that game while 10 different skaters recorded assists for Brockport. Prior to facing Brockport on Saturday for Military Appreciation Night, Plattsburgh will first host #2 SUNY Geneseo. Sophomore Bennett Stockdale is Potsdams current points (21) and goals (13) leader while Mitchell Hale leads the team in assists (12). Anthony Del Tufo (9-6-2) has spent a large amount of time in net for the Cardinals accumulating a total time of 941:49. He's posted a 2.99 goals against average allowing 47 goals while making 388 saves for a .892 save percentage.
 
Looking Ahead
Following this weekend's games, the Golden Eagles will play three games next week. First, Brockport will makeup its game against Morrisville on Wednesday, February 2nd that was originally scheduled for back on January 19th. Brockport will then travel to Oswego for the Lakers Senior Night on Friday, February 4th before hosting SUNY Cortland on Saturday February 5th in the Tuttle North Ice Arena. All games are scheduled to begin at 7 p.m.
