Brockport, NY – The SUNY Brockport men and women swim and dive teams will be busy this weekend with two meets in the schedule. Brockport will host St. Lawrence on Friday at 4 pm and then travel to face Fredonia at 1 pm on Saturday.
Senior Day: This Friday the Golden Eagles will be holding their final home meet of the season, which means they will celebrate Senior Day. Prior to the start of the action, a short ceremony will be held to honor and thank the eight seniors who are competing in the final home meet of their careers. The graduating class consists of
Cody Conte,
Mark Eaton,
Kevin Kantar, Moira Kurak, Allison Morrow, Bri Owen,
Billy Tolpa, and Kaite Wilson.
The Women's Dominant Showing: The SUNY Brockport women's swim and dive team dominated Buffalo State on Friday in the team's return to action. Brockport cruised to a 191-60 win in the first meet back since early December of 2021, improving to 5-1 on the season.
Nicole Orcutt took first place in several events on the day. Orcutt won the 1,000 yard freestyle (11:41.93), 100-yard butterfly (1:05.53), and the 100-yard freestyle (58.99). She was even on the winning 200-yard freestyle relay squad alongside
Elizabeth Sagan,
Allison Morrow, and
Sawyer Parker. Orcutt helped secure 38 points for the Green and Gold.
Elizabeth Sagan placed first in the 200-yard freestyle to score nine points, clocking in at 2:06.08. She also won the 50-yard freestyle with a time of 24.93 to snag nine more points for the squad.
Sawyer Parker's time of 5:39.12 was good for a win in the 500-yard freestyle race.
Kyra Russ,
Ren Watson, and
Moira Kurak placed first/second/third in the 1 & 3-meter diving events. The trio scored a total of 32 points for the Golden Eagles from sweeping the two events.
In the 100-yard breaststroke and the 100-yard individual medley,
Allison Morrow placed first to earn 18 points. Morrow was also with
Sawyer Parker,
Bri Owen, and
Emily Meissner to swim a time of 2:01.51 for first in the 200-yard medley relay. Owen also took first individually in the 50-yard butterfly with a time of 28.83.
Men Pull Out A Close Win: The SUNY Brockport men's swim and dive team got a win on the road over Buffalo State on Friday, pulling out a close 119-112 victory. The win pushes the squad to 2-5 on the season in dual meets.
Taylan Getiren placed first in the 50-yard breaststroke with a 30.44 time for nine big points for the Green and Gold.
Kurt Mueller and
Mark Eaton placed first/second in the 1 & 3-meter diving events, racking up a total of 26 points.
Snagging 11 points for the Golden Eagles, the 200-yard freestyle relay team placed first with a time of 1:44.97. The relay team consisted of
Billy Tolpa,
Matthew Chan,
Mark Eaton, and
Oliver Dragojevic.
The 200-yard medley relay team of
Matthew Chan,
Oliver Dragojevic,
Logan Kime, and
Billy Tolpa won their event as well. With a time of 1:46.95, the Green and Gold earned 11 more points.
It was a full team effort, as every event that scored points made the difference in such a close contest. Brockport edged out the seven-point victory in the opposing Bengal's pool.
SUNYACS Approaching: Following this weekend's action, the Green and Gold begin the final preparations for the SUNYAC Championships coming up in February. The conference championship meet will be held at the ECC Flickinger Center out in Buffalo, NY, running from Wednesday, February 16
th through Saturday the 19
th.
