Men's Soccer Looks to Extend Win Streak on the Road this Week

Brockport, NY – The SUNY Brockport men's soccer team is on the road this week for two SUNYAC matchups. First the squad takes on Geneseo at 7pm on Wednesday, October 12, 2022. Then on the week Brockport will head to New Paltz for a 1pm start on Saturday, October 15th.
 
Last Week: In a pair of conference battles last week, the Golden Eagles snagged two more wins. They defeated Fredonia, 2-0, and Oneonta, 2-0, at home on Dr. Linda Arena Field. Max Voyer came through with two goals in two games, while Russ Domm and Giovanni Cardona each had one score. Alex Rivara, Matthew Stefaniw, and Brady Reinagel all were credited with assists in last week's action.
 
Top of the Standings: These last two wins extended the Brockport win streak to six consecutive games, as the team grabs onto the top spot in the SUNYAC standings. At 8-1-4 overall and an undefeated mark of 6-0 in the conference, the Green and Gold have already clinched a spot in the postseason. The team is now in search of the No. 1 seed for the SUNYAC Tournament and have three regular season games remaining to earn it. The full conference standings are as follows: 1. Brockport, 2. Cortland, 3. New Paltz, 4. Plattsburgh, 5. Oneonta, 6. Geneseo, 7. Oswego, 8. Fredonia, 9. Buffalo State, and 10. Potsdam.
 
Regional Rankings: Heading into last weekend's matchup with Oneonta, the Red Dragons were ranked No. 16 in the nation. Brockport dominated its SUNYAC opponent at home, knocking off the nationally-ranked team from Oneonta. Currently on a six-game win streak after the 2-0 victory, the Golden Eagles have officially cracked the regional rankings. In the most recent United Soccer Coaches Region III poll, they are eighth in the region heading into the final stretch of the regular season.
 
Team Leaders: With 13 points on the season, Russ Domm leads the team in total points and in goals with six on the year. Domm is top 10 in the SUNYAC as he is tied for eighth in points and tied for sixth in goals. Matthew Stefaniw is close behind with 12 points on the season, leading the team with four assists to go with four goals. His four assists have him tied for fifth in the conference.
 
Among the Nation's Best: Goalkeeper Andrew Taylor has been incredible in net for the Golden Eagles all season. Taylor not only leads the SUNYAC in shutouts, but is tied for third in the nation with seven shutouts in 2022. His .860 saves percentage also leads the conference and ranks 20th in the country. Andrew is also top 25 with his .538 goals against average, which once again is the top mark in the SUNYAC.
 
Meet Geneseo: The Geneseo Knights fell to New Paltz, 1-0, in their last outing. They enter the week with a 7-4-2 record overall and a 1-2-2 mark in the conference. Tyler Lewandowski leads the squad with seven goals on the season, as he is among the leading scorers in the SUNYAC. Will Price has been the go-to starter in net for the Knights, totaling 15 saves and three shutouts with a .682 saves percentage. Justin Arilotta is near the top of the conference with his team-high five assists so far this year.
 
Looking at New Paltz: The Hawks from New Paltz are coming into this week of action with a 6-3-3 record overall and a 3-1-1 mark in the SUNYAC. They recently snuck out a one-goal victory against Geneseo on the road to score three crucial points in the conference standings. Tim Kane and Joseph DiPreta lead the team in points this season with nine and seven respectively. Kane has tallied four goals and one helper, while DiPreta has a team-high three assists to go with a pair of goals. Christian Mitchell has started and played every second of action in net for New Paltz this year. He has made 40 saves, allowed 12 goals, and owns a .769 saves percentage.
 
Regular Season Finale: The Golden Eagles will be back home on Saturday, October 22nd for the final match of the regular season against nationally-ranked SUNY Cortland. They will also be celebrating Senior Day as Brockport takes on No. 17 Cortland in a conference battle, starting at 1pm.
