Brockport, NY – On Saturday the SUNY Brockport men's soccer team fell to #15 SUNY Cortland at home, 4-1. Brockport will own the No. 4 seed and host a first-round game for the SUNYAC Tournament at 1pm on Saturday, October 29
th.
It was Senior Day for the Golden Eagles, as there was a short ceremony prior to the match honoring the senior class.
The visiting Red Dragons came to play, getting on the board in the 12
th minute. Riley Williams got an assist from Jack Coleman to put Cortland up 1-0.
Dylan Rippe was able to earn a penalty kick opportunity after drawing a foul in the box. At 37:20, Rippe would beat the keeper on the penalty kick to tie the game up at 1-1.
However, Cortland would find a way to break the tie on the scoreboard right before the break. Francesco Galvano was assisted by AJ Ali, making it a 2-1 game with less than two minutes left in the first half.
The Golden Eagles were unable to create many scoring chances, as they began to run out of time. In the 75
th minute Cortland's Cade Denlinger scored on another Jack Coleman assist. Soon after AJ Ali made it a 4-1 score, as the Red Dragons ran away with the victory.
Andrew Taylor came up with seven saves in net for Brockport, while senior
Ryan Gall recorded one stop in his limited time.
Cortland locks up the No. 1 seed for the upcoming SUNYAC Tournament, earning a first round bye and hosting rights moving forward.
With the regular season officially over, Brockport begins to prepare for a run in the postseason. The Golden Eagles will host Geneseo or Plattsburgh in the first round of the SUNYAC Tournament at 1pm on Saturday, October 29
th.
