Brockport, NY – The SUNY Brockport wrestling team is on the road Sunday, November 13
th for its first dual match of the season. Brockport heads to Oswego for a 12pm start time at the Max Ziel Gymnasium.
Last Time Out: Last weekend Brockport began the season with a third place finish at the Mount Union Invitational, which included champions in three weight classes.
Matt Caccamise placed first in the 133-pound weight class after winning his first match with a pin in 2:20. He won the quarterfinal 11-2 and then finished the semifinal with a pin in 23 seconds. He was undefeated in the tournament after a 7-6 match in the final round.
Elijah Sims placed first after an 8-4 decision against Nick Young in the final match of the 149-weight class.
Michael Sullivan Placed first in the 197-pound weight class after a pin at 3:48 in the quarterfinal round, a 9-0 major decision and then a 10-6 decision in the final match of the competition.
Michael Fronczak finished in second place, in the 165-pound weight class after wrestling Jordan Hardick from Ohio Northern University.
At the 125-pound weight class,
Liam Bullock placed third after a 1:07 fall over Trent Proctor.
In third place for the 184-pound weight class was Brockport Graduate Student
Chris Eames after defeating Michael Oliver in a 8-5 match.
Marquis Larmond placed 7
th in the 149-pound weight class after defeating Carson Filer.
Top 25 in the Nation: The Green and Gold have four wrestlers inside the top 25 in their own weight classes following the season opening competition last weekend. According to d3wrestle.com
Elijah Sims,
Matt Caccamise,
Michael Sullivan, and
Chris Eames all are top 20 in their respective weight class.
Sims comes in at No. 9 in the country inside the 149-pound weight class. Caccamise is listed at 11
th in the 133 division, earning contender status. At 197, Sullivan was ranked 16
th to also earn the label of contender. Eames ranks 20
th in the 184-pound weight division to receive honorable mention status.
Looking at the Lakers: Oswego began its 2022 season at the Ithaca College Invitational last weekend. The Lakers earned seventh place out of 12 teams down in Ithaca. In the 174-pound weight class, Charlie Grygas won the title bout by decision, 9-5. They also had second place finishers at 149 and 184 in Tyler Rossini and Bryce Smith respectively. Last meeting, Brockport defeated Oswego, 44-8, to improve to 17-0-1 all-time versus the Lakers.
Up Next: The Golden Eagles will begin to prepare for the Empire Collegiate Wrestling Conference Championships on Saturday, November 19
th. They will head out to Oswego, NY once again for the championship style competition. The action all gets started at 9am back at the Max Ziel Gymnasium.
