Kean College Shuts-out Golden Eagles in Sunday's Showcase

Union, NJ – The SUNY Brockport baseball team (1-1) recorded their first loss this season to Kean University getting shutout in a 4-0 game against the Cougars.
 
Kean took the lead in the third inning of the game on a 2-RBI single as the Cougars pulled ahead 2-0. The following inning Kean scored again of a sacrifice fly ball to Nicholas Pastore as Kean pulled ahead 3-0. Four innings later in the top of the eight, Kean hit another sacrifice fly out to sophomore right fielder Sam Law to put the Cougars up 4-0 which result in the final score of the game.
 
Pitching Recap
Tom Kretzler got the start on the mound in the Golden Eagles second game of the season going 5.1 innings, throwing 70 pitches, allowing three runs, and striking out four batters while not allowing a single walk.
 
Nick Lawlor took over with in the sixth inning for the Golden Eagles where threw 27 pitches through two innings where he allowed one run to score.
 
Matthew Colucci took the ball from Lawlor with two outs to go in the bottom of the eighth where he recorded the final two outs for Brockport in the game.
 
For Kean, Dylan Taliaferro went eight scoreless innings on the mound recording five strikeouts and two walks on 95 pitches for the cougars before being replaced by Daniel Keenan in the top of the ninth who had two strikeouts and one walk through 24 pitches.
 
Batting Recap
The Golden Eagles record two hits in Sunday's game with James Houlahan and Sam Law picking up a single for each of them. Law's hit came in the top of the third to left field while Houlahans hit occurred in the top of the eighth. Brockport picked up three walks in the game while Ryan Voight managed to swipe a bag and steal second base.
 
Kean recorded 11 hit, 4 RBI's, one double and one triple along with one stolen base against the Golden Eagles.
 
Chase to 300
With an overall record of 297-229-1, Brockport's head coach Justin Beach is three wins shy of hitting 300 total wins for his career. He will have a chance to hit 300 wins next weekend if the team goes 3-0 as they will face both Clarkson University and Elmira College at Onondaga Community College. On Saturday, March 5th at OCC the Golden Eagles will face off in a double header against Clarkson University with game one starting at 12 pm. On Sunday, March 6th, Brockport will face Elmira College at 11 am.
