The SUNY Brockport baseball team opened up a 5-0 lead in the top of the first inning and never looked back as the Golden Eagles cruised to a dominant 14-3 victory over Stevenson in its opener at the RussMatt Central Florida Invitational in Auburndale, Florida on Sunday evening.
Brockport's record moved to 3-2 overall, while Stevenson fell to 4-12-1 on the season.
James Houlahan went 2-for-4 with two runs scored and a stolen base, while
Ryan Mansell went 1-for-3 with three runs scored and two RBIs for the Golden Eagles.
Matt O'Dair went 2-for-4 with two RBIs and one run scored while seven others posted at least one hit for Brockport.
Brockport pitched by committee to pick up the win on Sunday.
Tom Kretzler started the game for the Golden Eagles and struck out one, while
Colin Pytlak came on in relief and pitched 2.1 innings while striking out five.
Nick Lawlor ate up two innings for Brockport and struck out one while allowing just one hit and one run.
Nick Ianniello struck out the side in one inning of work and
Matthew Colucci and
Keegan Jarvais combined for 2.0 innings of work and allowed just one hit.
Ryan Voight started Brockport's scoring barrage off with an RBI single in the top of the first, scoring Houlahan.
Ryan Mansell then scored on a passed ball and
Ryan Voight crossed home plate following a wild pitch. O'Dair singled home
Jake Sisto and
Sam Law capped the Brockport first inning scoring on a wild pitch.
Stevenson got two runs back in the second inning to make it a 5-2 ball game, until Brockport tacked on two more runs to make it 7-2 at the end of the fifth inning.
Justin Pangburn had an RBI double in the third and O'Dair added an RBI single in the fifth.
The Golden Eagles went on to score seven more runs in the final three innings of the game to earn the convincing 11 run victory. Brockport's late scoring effort included an RBI double from Mansell and an RBI single from
Brian Tietjen.
Nicholas Pastore and
Sam Law each scored twice in the contest for Brockport.
Zach Harter went 1-for-1 at the plate with one run scored.
The Golden Eagles will take Monday off before returning to the field for a single game against University of Maine, Presque Isle in Auburndale at Lake Myrtle Field #5.
