Brockport, NY – The SUNY Brockport baseball team snagged a 4-3 win over St. John Fisher at home on Thursday in dramatic fashion. In extra innings
Matt O'Dair hit a walk-off single to score the game winning run, which extends Brockport's program record win streak to 12.
O'Dair was 2-for-5 at the plate in the game with a double and one RBI. With the score tied at 3-3 in the bottom of the 10
th, he singled to right field which brought
Zach Eldred in to score for the win.
Brian Tietjen was 2-for-4 with a solo home run in the contest, his first of the year.
Ryan Mansell batted 2-for-5 in this one with one run, one RBI, and a stolen base.
Tom Kretzler also had an RBI, going 1-for-3 at the dish and took first base on two hit-by-pitch situations.
Justin Pangburn was 1-for-4 with one run scored and
Jason Mansell was credited with one stolen base.
Colin Pytlak threw 5.1 innings as the Golden Eagles starting pitcher. He gave up two earned runs and struck out five batters on the mound.
Adam Douglas and
Jake Jempty combined to pitch four innings.
Nick Ianniello (2-0) received the winning decision after coming into the game in the 10
th to finish it out.
It was a pitcher's duel early on, as both teams struggled to score. After three scoreless innings, St. John Fisher got on the board first in the top of the fourth. With a run in the fourth and two-RBI double in the sixth, the visiting Cardinals were up 3-0.
Brockport's
Brian Tietjen would get the Golden Eagles fired up in the bottom of the sixth. The sophomore launched his first home run of the season, making it a 3-1 game. With momentum changing, Brockport continued the comeback in the seventh.
Ryan Mansell and Tom Kreztler both hit RBI singles, tying the game up at 3-3.
With neither team surrendering a run in the eighth or ninth innings, the game headed into extra innings still tied at 3-3. After
Nick Ianniello stepped in to get a couple clutch outs in the top of the 10
th, the Green and Gold stepped to the plate looking for the win.
Zach Eldred got things started with a lead-off single to right field in the top of the 10
th.
Brian Tietjen grounded out to first, but Eldred was able to advance to second base. Then on the first pitch of his at-bat,
Matt O'Dair made contact which brought Eldred around to score the winning run.
The Golden Eagles look to continue its historical win streak this weekend against SUNYAC opponent, Oneonta. They will play a full, three-game series at home with a doubleheader starting at 1:30 pm on Saturday and a single game set for 12 pm on Sunday.
