Men's Soccer Ready To Host SUNYAC Opener

BROCKPORT, NY – The SUNY Brockport men's soccer team is set to host two SUNYAC opponents this week for the start of conference play. On Wednesday, September 21st at 4:00 pm The Golden Eagles will host Oswego State before hosting the Potsdam Bears on Saturday, September 24th at 1:00 pm.
 
ALS awareness game


Help Fight The Battle: Saturday's home contest will be a special one as it will be the Golden Eagles' first ALS Awareness Game. The fundraiser will support the ALS Association Upstate New York Chapter as well as Joseph LaPietra, brother of Head Coach Gary LaPietra.  Joseph is currently battling ALS, an illness commonly known as Lou Gehrig's disease. 
 
Throughout the contest, volunteers will sell concessions, collect donations and hand out ALS Awareness merchandise. The men's soccer team will also wear red t-shirts during warm-ups to help raise awareness for the life-threatening disease. Red is the official color of ALS awareness.

Last Week's Recap: The Golden Eagles are 2-1-4 overall this season with its most recent contest resulting in a tie against Medaille College this past Saturday in a 1-1 game. Josh Fitzpatrick scored Brockport's game-tying goal to give the team its fourth tie of the year. The Golden Eagles' only win last week in their three games came against Houghton which saw Warren Banks score the game-winning goal against the Highlanders in the team's 1-0 victory.
 
Men's Soccer vs Ithaca 9-16-22 

Team Leaders: Russ Domm is Brockport's current points leader where he's scored a team-high two goals so far for four total points. Domm has fired off 16 shots with seven of those being on goal for a 0.125 shooting percentage and a .438 shooting percentage.
 
Three Golden Eagles are tied for the second most points on the team as Matthew Stefaniw, Seamus Parker, and Warren Banks have each recorded three points from one goal and one assist. Banks has been one of Brockport's more accurate shot takers where his five shots on goal from eight shots give him.625 shots on goal percentage
 
Brick Wall: Andrew Taylor has been Brockport's only goalkeeper to see the pitch this season. He's started in all seven games and played the full 90-minutes in each of those games totaling 630:00 minutes in total on the pitch, the most of any SUNYAC goalkeeper. He has recorded 19 saves while allowing five goals having faced 53 total shots. He has the third lowest goals-against average in the SUNYAC (0.71) and the third highest save percentage (.792) along with the fourth most saves (19). His three shutouts so far this season also tie him for the second most in the conference.
 
The Lakers: Oswego State is 2-3-1 overall this season having just come off a 1-1 tie against Fredonia State. The Laker's leading scorer is currently #2 Kyle Gehnrich who has tallied five points from two goals and one assist. #19 Kieran Gilroy ranks second amongst scorers and his two goals have given him four points. Defensively, #4 Ryan Contreras and #16 Caleb Munski have been the Lakers' primary iron man where they average 535:00 minutes on the pitch between the two. In goal, #45 Matt D'Arpino has seen 450:00-minutes in net. He's currently allowed six goals while making 22 saves averaging 1.20 goals allowed per game while recording a .786 save percentage.
 
Looking at Potsdam: The Bears are 4-1-1 to start the year off. They've scored 14 total goals this season while only allowing their opponents to score five against them. The team's most recent victory came at a lopsided 4-0 win over Cobleskill this past Sunday. #9 Anderson Velasquez leads the team with 11 total points from five goals and one assist. Next to him on the stats line is #21 Owen Santos who has recorded two goals and one assist for five points this season. The Bears' iron man on the field has been #16 Raymond Jones, a defender, has spent a team-high 498:00 total minutes on the pitch. In goal, a split time has been spent between keepers. Evan Jacobs has spent the most time in net playing 239:54 in net allowing three goals while making seven saves while Lucas Schiel has tallied 228:36 in net making 8 saves while allowing one goal. each has appeared in four games and has both started in three.
