Wrestling Hits the Road for Hunter College Tri-Match

Brockport, NY – The SUNY Brockport wrestling team heads to the Hunter College Tri-Meet this weekend to compete against Hunter College and New Jersey City University. The meet is scheduled to start at 11am on Saturday, January 7th.
 
The First of Many: In Brockport's last outing, the team defeated Alfred State College, 32-10. Improving to 1-1 on the season in duals, Head Coach Sam Recco recorded his first career victory.
 
Against Alfred State: The Golden Eagles got wins in seven of the 10 bouts in the dual with Alfred State. 133-pounder, Matt Caccamise got the win on the day, 10-2.
 
Elijah Sims,149-pound weight class, won by a pin in the second period of his match. Michael Sullivan matched his teammate with a pin in the second.
 
At 125, Liam Bullock dominated his matchup for the tech fall win, 17-2. In the 165-weight division, Matthew Kline earned a, 10-2, victory.
 
Jared Zenie added a win for the Green and Gold at 197. He defeated his matchup, 11-3. Joe Yanis battled for a, 3-1, triumph in the 285 division.
 
Open Mat Rankings: Matt Caccamise enters the weekend ranked 10th in the latest Open Mat NCAA Division III Rankings for the 133-weight division. At 149, Elijah Sims comes in ranking ninth in the division. Michael Sullivan also continues his top-10 run, moving to eighth at 197.
 
Weekend Warriors: This weekend at the Hunter College Tri-Meet, the following list of wrestlers are expected to compete: Liam Bullock (125), Isaiah Jackson (125), Matt Caccamise (133), Jaden Friel (141), Marquis Larmond (141), Elijah Sims (149), Francis Whitehouse (149), Sam Grey (157), Matthew Kline (165), Jared Zenie (174), Karam Ali (184), Michael Sullivan (197), Joe Yanis (285).
 
Hunter & NJCU: The host for the weekend, Hunter College, enters the event with a record of 0-3 in duals. The Hawks suffered losses to Roger Williams (58-0), Rhode Island (47-8), and Western New England (51-4). New Jersey City owns a record of 4-7 this season, but have lost six straight entering the Tri-Match. The Gothic Knights grabbed wins against Scranton (22-21), Keystone (41-6), Rowan (39-16), and Oneonta (29-27).
 
Up Next: After the weekend the Golden Eagles will prepare for the Mule Duals, hosted by Muhlenberg College on January 14th. That day the squad will take on Muhlenberg at 1pm, Delaware Valley at 2:30pm, and Alfred State at 4pm.
