Golden Eagles Hockey Set for a Big Alumni Weekend at Home

Brockport, NY – The SUNY Brockport ice hockey team will be celebrating Alumni Weekend this weekend which includes a crucial pair of SUNYAC matchups. On Friday night the Golden Eagles will host the Buffalo State Bengals for the annual Teddy Bear Toss game at 7PM in the Wegmans Ice Arena. The following night the men will be wearing their throwback jerseys for a 7PM game against Fredonia State, celebrating of 50 years of Varsity Ice Hockey at Brockport.
 
Teddy Bear Toss: Bring a bear to be thrown onto the ice after the Golden Eagles score their first goal of the night. All bears will be collected and donated to local charities for the holiday season. 
 
Conference Awards: This week the SUNYAC announced that David Filak was selected as the SUNYAC Men's Hockey Goalie of the Week.
 
Filak started and played all three games last week for the Golden Eagles in net. In Filak's 185:00 minutes on the ice this week he made 107 saves and allowed seven goals, giving him a save percentage of .939%.
 
David also earned himself his first collegiate win against Salve Regina. He took to the ice for three straight matchups against nationally ranked opponents in No. 2 Hobart, No. 10 Salve Regina, and No. 15 Skidmore.
 
His work in net helped the Golden Eagles win the Skidmore Thanksgiving Invitational. They defeated Salve Regina, 3-2, on day one. The next day Brockport played Skidmore to a 2-2 draw, before Filak made three saves in a 1-0 shootout win for the tournament championship.
 
In the YAC: Filak is ranked fifth in the conference for his 2.63 goals against average. He is ranked fourth in the conference for his overall save percentage of .926% in four games. 
 
Connor Galloway is ranked 19th overall and 18th among forwards in the conference with seven points. Cam Barbagallo is ranked 24th among defensemen with two points so far this year. 
 
Weekend Recap: The Golden Eagles defeated No. 10 Salve Regina, 3-2, in the first round of the Skidmore Thanksgiving Invitational. 
 
Nationally-ranked Salve Regina scored on the first shift, just 0:58 into the game. Brockport went into the first intermission down 1-0 but came back strong in the second.
 
The Seahawks scored 1:44 into the second period, making it a 2-0 lead. Chase Maxwell scored for Brockport three minutes later, taking advantage of the power play situation. Maxwell was assisted by Manny Sanchez and Schuyler Flansburg at 4:22 into the second period.

Cam Barbagallo tied the game up with the team's second goal of the game at 9:53 in the second. He was assisted by Jacob Gates and Josh Grund, sending the Green and Gold into the third tied at 2-2.
 
Scott Ramaekers scored the final goal of the game at 1:15 into the third period, locking up the big win. Ramaekers was assisted by Cam Barbagallo and Connor Galloway on what became the game-winner.

David Filak earned himself his first career win tonight making 33 saves and allowing two goals. Brockport grabs a nice resume building victory, improving to 3-6 overall.
 
The Green and Gold recorded a total of 34 shots in the contest, while Salve Regina fired 35 shots. The Golden Eagles were 1 for 3 on the power play and 2 for 2 on the penalty kill.
 
The Golden Eagles impressed once again Sunday afternoon, winning a shootout against No. 15 Skidmore College to claim the Thanksgiving Invitational Championship. After playing to a 2-2 tie through overtime, Brockport took the tournament title with a 1-0 mark in the shootout. The team is now 3-6-1 overall after upsetting a pair of Top-15 teams over the weekend.
 
Jacob Gates got the ball rolling scoring his first collegiate goal at 18:25 in the first period. The Green and Gold defender was assisted by Spencer Flansburg and Chase Maxwell. Brockport went into the first intermission of the night up 1-0 over the hosting Thoroughbreds.
 
Matt Anastasio kept the momentum going, scoring at 13:03 into the second period. He was assisted by Nick Serafin on the play to provide the Golden Eagles with a 2-0 lead. Skidmore snuck a goal past Filak five minutes later, going into the second intermission down 2-1.
 
Skidmore tied up the game at 1:58 in the third, putting the score at 2-2. With neither team able to find the back of the net to finish out regulation, the contest headed into overtime. 
 
After a scoreless 5:00 minute overtime both teams headed into their first shootout of the season. Matt Anastasio scored the lone shootout goal and David Filak saved all three attempts of the night earning the Golden Eagles the Skidmore Thanksgiving Invitational title. 
 
David Filak played 65:00 minutes in goal making 37 total saves and allowing two goals. Brockport won 34 of the 59 face offs and were 4-for-4 on the penalty kill. The Golden Eagles were outshot, 39-16, on the night but still snagged the tournament title.
 
Looking at the Bengals: Buffalo State is 4-6 overall and 2-3 in the conference heading into this Friday's match up. They have a total of 23 goals on 293 shots this season and average 2.3 goals a game. They are 8-for-51 on the power play and 29-for-37 on the penalty kill. The leading scorer is #9 Aidan LaValley with four goals and six assists so far this year. 
 
Between the pipes for the Bengals is #1 Drew Doran, #35 Marcus Cumberworth and #31 Liam Gross. Doran has played 172:59 minutes in goal this season allowing eight goals and making 102 saves, earning a save percentage of .927. Cumberworth has seen 402:32 minutes of action on the ice this season, making 200 saves and allowing 23 goals. He has a save percentage of .897 and averages 3.43 goals against a game. Gross has seen 26:33 minutes in net this season making 18 saves, and allowing 4 goals for a save percentage of .818.
 
Looking at the Blue Devils: Fredonia is 2-6 overall and 2-3 in the conference heading into this weekend's match up. They have a total of 17 goals on 212 shots so far this season and average 2.1 goals a game. They are 1-for-23 on the power play and 22-for-30 on the penalty kill. Fredonia's leading scorer is #24 David Sudbrink with three goals and two assists.
 
In goal for the Blue Devils is #1 Charles-Anthony Barbeau and #31 Logan Dyck. Barbeau has spent 299:32 in goal making 185 saves and allowing 17 goals, giving him a save percentage of .916. He averages 3.41 goals against per game. Dyck has seen 179:28 minutes on the ice this season making 90 saves, allowing nine goals, and earning a save percentage of .909. Dyck averages 3.01 goals against a game.
 
Up Next: Following this weekend of SUNYAC play the Golden Eagles will host Morrisville at 7PM on Wednesday, December 6th and Elmira at 4PM on Saturday December 9th.
