Brockport Beats Fredonia, 12-1, in First Game of Series

Fredonia, NY – The SUNY Brockport Baseball team is back on the grind with a 12-1 win against Fredonia State.
 
Brendan Pajak started on the mound for the Green and Gold striking out five batters across his five innings. He allowed four hits, one run and four walks on the way to his first career win.
 
Ryan Voight was the first to bring a teammate home, when he batted in Johnny Genau with a single. 
 
Brockport scored two runs in the top of the third. Justin Pangburn doubled, followed by a ground out to second base from Nicholas Pastore, where Pangburn scored advanced to third. Zach Eldred hit his fourth home run of the season and brought home Pangburn. 
 
In the top of the fourth Brian Tietjen made it to first by an error on the third baseman. He advanced to second on a passed ball. Jason Mansell singled, and Tietjen advanced to third. Mansell stole second and Pangburn was walked. The bases were loaded when Nicholas Pastore headed to the plate and hit his third home run of the season.
 
Fredonia scored their only run in the bottom of the fourth.
 
Patrick Bigham was hit by a pitch moving to first base to start the top of the fifth. James Houlahan singled, and Bigham advanced to second. Genau also singled, making the bases loaded as all the men advanced a base. Ryan Voight hit a single and advanced to second bringing home Bigham and Houlahan. Tietjen flied out to left field and Genau scored for the 10th run of the game.
 
Nick Ianniello found a spot on the mound for the last four innings of the game, striking out six batters. He let up two hits and no runs to earn the save.
 
The field got quiet until the top of the ninth where Brockport scored its final two runs. Eldred hit a single. Houlahan also hit a single, but advanced to third, bringing Eldred home for the 11th run of the game. Genau was walked and Cole Traudt flied out to left field. This allowed Houlahan to scorie on the play for the final run of the game. Josh Indek was walked and Genau advanced to second base. Indek and Genau both advanced on a pass ball but were left on base.
 
Brockport will be back for game two and three of the series at Fredonia State tomorrow morning beginning at 12 noon.
