Brockport, NY – On Sunday the Golden Eagle softball team's season came to an end after losing a pair of games to the visiting Potsdam Bears. With scores of 6-4 and 13-4, Brockport concludes the season 5-27 overall and 2-16 in conference play.
Game 1
Potsdam was able to get on the board early with a run in the first inning, but Brockport responded in the second.
Hailey Burdick got in scoring position with a leadoff double and soon came around to score to tie the game up at 1-1. She finished game on 2-for-3 at the plate and drew a walk.
After a couple scoreless innings, the visiting Bears hit a 3-run homer in the top of the fourth inning to surge forward for a 4-1 lead. In the bottom of the sixth,
Hannah Jacobs rattled off an RBI single in pinch hitting situation to bring
Emma DeJesus home.
Amanda Blakely also came home to score in the inning, making it a 4-3 game.
Potsdam added some cushion in the top of the seventh with a double to right center that brought a pair of runs in. The Green and Gold trailed, 6-3, heading into the bottom of seven. Trying to spark a late rally,
Annie Dipirro hit a solo home run to make it a 6-4 game. Her third homer of the season and second in the last two days.
Brockport was unable to close the gap any further in game one, as Potsdam held on for the 2-run victory.
Fiona Gibiser went the distance in the circle for the Golden Eagles, striking out four batters and allowed five earned runs on eight hits.
Game 2
The Bears jumped out to a big lead quickly to start the second game of Sunday's doubleheader. They scored seven runs in the first inning, leading from start to finish in the contest. Dipirro helped Brockport respond with a 2-RBI double in the first, making it a 7-2 game after one.
With runners in scoring position in the bottom of the second,
Kellie Gentile chipped away at the lead. She ripped a single up the middle that scored both
Olivia Hayden and
Riley Barrett to make the score 7-4. However, the Golden Eagles would not score for the remainder of the game.
Potsdam went on to score six more runs in the top of the fifth. With Brockport trailing, 13-4, a scoreless go around in the bottom of five brought the mercy-rule into play. The visiting Bears took the win in five innings to complete the sweep.

Fiona Gibiser came in to pitch most of game two.
The Golden Eagles' season comes to an end following Sunday's doubleheader, as the team will not be making the postseason SUNYAC Tournament this year.
