Men's Soccer Soars Past Buffalo State in SUNYAC Opener

Brockport, NY – The SUNY Brockport men's soccer team opened conference play with a 3-1 win over Buffalo State at home on Wednesday. The Golden Eagles move to 3-2-2 overall after the 1-0 start to SUNYAC competition.

Brockport set the tone in the first half with two goals coming from free kick opportunities. DJ Taylor scored the first, with the assist coming from Josh Fitzpatrick. Just before halftime, Sean Lee finished off a scoring chance to give the team a 2-0 lead at the break.

On the first free kick, Russ Domm played the ball to the far post. Fitzpatrick touched the ball back across the net to connect with Taylor for the header. The second chance was started by Chuck Domm. He fired a shot that was saved by the goalie, and Lee was there to clean up the rebound.

The visiting Bengals got on the board in the second half to keep their hopes alive. Trailing 2-1, Buffalo State entered the contest without a loss at 4-0-2. The Golden Eagles would put any chances for a comeback away with a score in the 72nd minute.

Evan Stevely beat the Buffalo State goalkeeper for the unassisted goal, putting Brockport up 3-1. The junior gained possession of a loose ball in the box and struck a lefty shot past the diving keeper. Andrew Taylor finished with three saves, as the Green and Gold took the victory at home.

On Saturday the Golden Eagles continue conference play with a matchup against Plattsburgh State at 2pm back on the home field.
