Wrestling Heads to RIT for Friday Dual

Brockport, NY - The Brockport wrestling team will head to Rochester for dual action against RIT on Friday, February 16th at 7 p.m.

Wrestler of the Week: This week, Nick Franco of the SUNY Brockport wrestling team was named the SUNYAC Men's Wrestler of the Week. Franco celebrated his senior night with a dominant showing in the 285-division match. He pinned his opponent from Elmira in just 1:43, making quick work of his matchup to score for the team.

Last Time Out: The Golden Eagles rolled to a dominating win on a senior night over Elmira, 47-4, on Wednesday, February 7th.
 
Before the meet got started there was a short ceremony to recognize this year's senior class. Liam Bullock, Mahmoud Esa, Nick Franco, Alexander Fronczak, Marquis Larmond, Elvis Vasquez, and Francis Whitehouse were all honored.
 
At 149, Mahmoud Esa celebrated his senior night with a decision victory, 12-10. Max Morrison overcame a first-period deficit in the 157-weight class match to get a decision win of his own, 17-15.
 
In the 165 match, Marquis Larmond got in on the senior night celebration. He pinned his matchup 2:22 into the first period for the win.
 
Gavin McLaughlin took care of business at 174. He won by way of a technical fall, 19-4. Up next was Kiam Coleman at 184, which saw him pin his opponent just 43 seconds into the match.
 
Moving to the 197-weight class, Elijah Bonet continued the winning trend of the night. He won by fall 4:53 into the match.
 
To close the night out, Nick Franco pinned his matchup in 1:43 to complete the senior night celebration.
 
The 43-point win for the Golden Eagles marked the largest victory since a 50-0 win over Penn State Behrend to open the 2019-20 season.
 
Scouting RIT: The Tigers currently sit at 5-1 in dual competition, winning their last five head-to-head duals. RIT took third at the SUNYAC Championships, in addition to securing 2nd place finishes in the Ned McGinley Invitational and Ohio Intercollegiate Open.
 
Up Next: The Golden Eagles will head to Ewing, NJ for the Mideast Futures Tournament on Sunday, February 25th.
