Brockport, NY – The SUNY Brockport hockey team will be on the road for a crucial pair of conference clashes this weekend. The Golden Eagles will first take on Buffalo State at 7pm on Friday before heading to Fredonia for a 7pm game Saturday night.
Last Time Out: Brockport lost its final home game of the season last weekend against the Cortland Red Dragons, 5-1. In a competitive first period, Cortland was able to score late to take a 1-0 lead into the intermission. The visiting Red Dragons went on to score four goals in the second to take a commanding lead. The Green and Gold got on the board in the second, thanks to a goal from
Schuyler Flansburg. He was assisted by
Chase Maxwell and
Manny Sanchez on the play. With neither team scoring in the third, Cortland took the win 5-1.
Conference Standings: Heading into the final stretch of the regular season, Brockport owns a record of 6-13-3 overall and 3-9-1 in SUNYAC play. Currently sitting at seventh in the conference standings, the squad trails Fredonia and Buffalo State by just one point going into the weekend. Team Leaders: Connor Galloway continues to lead Brockport in total points this season, as he is first on the squad in assists. He has totaled 16 points on 12 assists and four goals. Close behind is
Josh Grund with 13 points, coming from a team-high six goals to go with seven assists.
Chase Maxwell (11pts),
Scott Ramaekers (10pts), and
Manny Sanchez (10pts) all have double-digit points this year as well.
Jordan Rosenbaum has been willing to sacrifice his body, leading the Green and Gold with 28 blocked shots in the defensive zone.
Wiemer in Net: Dylan Wiemer has been the go-to starter in net for most of the 2023-24 season. In 14 starts he has a record of 4-9-1 between the pipes. Wiemer has made a total of 437 saves to earn a saves percentage of .899. In Brockport's recent tie with Plattsburgh State, he made 42 stops in net for one of his best outings of the season.
Against Buffalo State: With both teams still fighting for a postseason spot, Friday night's game will be crucial for Brockport and Buffalo State. In their previous meeting, the Golden Eagles took the win, 5-3, behind a 4-point showing from
Connor Galloway. He had two goals and two assists in the home victory. The Bengals enter the matchup with a record of 9-11-1 overall and 4-7-1 in conference play. They are 2-0-1 in the last three games, picking up wins against Chatham (11-2) and Post (3-2, OT) in non-conference action.
Looking at Fredonia: Saturday night will be another big game for both the Golden Eagles and the Blue Devils, as they fight for the last two spots in the conference tournament. Fredonia is 6-14-1 overall and 4-7-1 in the SUNYAC heading into the weekend. The squad takes on Geneseo on Friday before Saturday's meeting with Brockport. Playing one non-conference game and one conference game, Brockport and Fredonia split the two games earlier this season. The Blue Devils took the SUNYAC matchup, 4-3, while Brockport won the non-conference match, 5-1.
Regular Season Finale: Following this weekend the Golden Eagles have just one regular season game left on the schedule. They will travel to face Morrisville State on Saturday, February 17
th for a 4pm puck drop.
