Auburndale, FL – The Brockport baseball team played Western New England bright and early Monday. Brockport won in an 8-1 final.
In a slow start for both offenses, the Brockport pitching staff was effective throughout.
Brian Doherty went 3.0 innings, allowing no runs and had two strikeouts.
Michael Heilig picked up his first career win in his dominant relief performance. He went 5.0 innings allowing one run with two hits and six strike outs.
TJ Strevell gave the Golden Eagles the lead in the seventh with a sacrifice fly.
Josh Indek and
Frank Vanzillotta both had RBIs.
Zach Eldred and SUNYAC Baseball Athlete of the Week,
Cole Traudt, both had two RBI hits scoring Indek, Mansell, Wing and Vanzillotta to cap off an 8-run seventh inning.
The 6'5" righty
Angelo Agro closed out the 9
th striking out the side and givine up just one hit. The Golden Eagles took the win and improved to a 6-3 record.
Brockport will be back at it tomorrow morning for a double header where the team takes on SUNY Cobleskill at 8:30 and 10:30am.
