Clermont, FL – The SUNY Brockport softball lost a pair of games on Wednesday. Brockport lost game one of the day against Bowdoin (11-0), and then fell to UW-River falls (9-2) in the second contest. The Golden Eagles are now 2-6 with one day left in their trip to Florida.
Game 1: Brockport 0, Bowdoin 11
The Bowdoin Bears had a big inning in the first to set the tone for game one of Wednesday's set. Getting the bases loaded, a combination of walks and singles led to a 6-run showing to start the contest.
Bowdoin was able to score in the second, third, and fourth innings as well to build upon its lead. The mercy-rule was called into play in the fifth, resulting in the 11-0 final in five innings.
Grace Talbut was 1-for-2 at the plate with a double for Brockport.
Natalie Faas and
Caitlyn Dailey both registered singles, with both going 1-for-2. Dailey was joined by
Emma DeJesus and
Cece Rappleyea with one stolen base each.
Hadley Alguire (L, 1-1) started at pitcher for the Green and Gold, going just 0.2 innings.
Kendall Phillips stepped in as the reliever, finishing out the final 3.1 innings for the team, striking out six batters.
Game 2: Brockport 2, UW-River Falls 9
The second contest of the day was a pitchers dual throughout most of the game. Brockport was able to take an early 1-0 lead in the first inning.
Emma DeJesus hit a single to left field, which brought
Olivia Simone in to score. No other runs would score for either team until the sixth inning.
Kendall Phillips (L, 1-3) went 5.1 innings with 11 strikeouts and allowed just three hits. The freshman held UWRF without a run through the first five innings of the game. Her counterpart Lindsey Duggan went the full 7.0 innings for River Falls, striking out eight batters.
The game changed in the top of the sixth, as UWRF started to get things going offensively. Scoring four runs in the inning, River Falls surged ahead to take a 4-1 lead.
Aubrey Ennis responded for Brockport with an RBI single, scoring Simone once again.
River Falls had another big inning in the top of the seventh, scoring five more runs to take a commanding 9-2 lead. The Green and Gold left several runners on base throughout the contest and was unable to answer offensively.
Riley Barrett was solid with a 3-for-4 showing at the plate in the game.
Aubrey Ennis went 2-for-4 with an RBI, while
Emma DeJesus had the other Brockport RBI from her 1-for-4 day at the plate.
Olivia Simone (1-4, 2 runs),
Paige Wentland (1-3), and
Jackie DuTot (1-1) all registered hits in the loss.
The Golden Eagles head back to the Legends Way Ballpark on Thursday for their final set of games for this year's spring trip to Florida. They will take on Smith College (9:15am) and Lawrence University (11:30am).
