Brockport Falls Short in Game 1 of Vital Series

Plattsburgh, NY – The Golden Eagles fell 7-10 to the Plattsburgh State Cardinals up in north country on Friday afternoon. Brockport is now 17-14 overall and 5-8 in the SUNYAC conference.
 
Starting on the mound for the Green and Gold was Matt McGowan. McGowan struck out one batters, let up five runs, six hits and one walk across the 3.1 innings he pitched.
 
David Belsito earned the first RBI of the day in the first inning with a single to center field that brought home Josh Indek and helped Frank Vanzillotta advance to second base. 
 
Vanzillotta got the ball rolling with a big inning for the Golden Eagles with a double to left field that brought home Jason Mansell and put Indek on third. Zach Eldred walked, which brought home Josh Indek. Vanzillotta advanced to third on a wild pitch. David Belsito reached first on an error by the second basemen and Vanzillotta game home for run number four of the day.
 
Plattsburgh scored five runs in the 4th inning and three more in the bottom of the 6th, leaving Brockport to trail 8-5 heading into the seventh. 
 
Eldred doubled to right center in the top of the seventh brining home Vanzillotta. Belsito doubled to left center brining home Eldred for run number six. Jason Mansell flew out to left field in a sacrifice fly, bringing home Belsito for the final run of the day.
 
Plattsburgh scored two more runs in the bottom of the seventh.
 
Angelo Agro pitched 2.2 innings, striking out two batters. Agro let up five hits, four runs and two walks across the 16 batters faced. Brian Doherty finished out the game for the Golden Eagles pitching 2.0 innings. Doherty struck out two batters, let up three hits and one run across the nine batters he faced.
 
Brockport will return to Chip Cummings field for a doubleheader against the Cardinals set to start at noon.
