BROCKPORT, N.Y- The Brockport Men's Soccer team defeated SUNY Poly on the road, 2-1, on Saturday, October 4th. The Golden Eagles improved to 4-4-2 overall and 3-1-1 in conference play after the road victory.
Despite beginning the contest with a 7-3 shots advantage in the first half, Brockport would be unable to capitalize, entering halftime scoreless.
Peter Tinaj and
Brady Reinagel would produce scoring chances in the opening half, but neither would be able to capitalize. The Wildcats would create a scoring chance late in the first half, but
AJ Nelson would make a big save to keep the contest scoreless.
Both offenses would start the second half on fire, with the two teams combining for three goals in the first 15 minutes. Just over five minutes into the second half,
Max Voyer would open the scoring, thanks in part to an excellent feed from
Alex Rivara at the 50:31 mark, putting Brockport up 1-0.
Less than seven minutes later, the Golden Eagles would strike again to double their lead.
Brady Reinagel would get loose for an unassisted tally at the 57:13 mark of the contest, with Brockport soaring to a 2-0 advantage. SUNY Poly would stay on the attack, with Nazim Harizi scoring his first of the season, less than two minutes later, to cut the lead in half.
Despite being outshot 8-5 in the second half,
AJ Nelson would secure the victory for the Green and Gold. The Brockport goaltender would make two critical stops in the second half to secure the 2-1 win.
Nelson (W, 3-0-1) remains undefeated across his first four career starts, making three big saves in the Golden Eagles' win.
Ryan Mathis led all players with four shots on the afternoon, with
Brady Reinagel (G) leading Brockport with two shots on goal.
