Late Comeback Sinks Ice Hockey Against Chatham, 5-4, on Teddy Bear Toss

BROCKPORT, NY - The Brockport Ice Hockey team was defeated in overtime, 5-4, against #15 Chatham in the Teddy Bear Toss game on Friday, November 21st. The Golden Eagles dropped to 1-6 on the season and 0-3 in UCHC play following the loss.

The Teddy Bears would hit the ice in a hurry, with Michael Kull finding Kyle Kussmann for the game's opening goal 11:10 into the opening period. The celebration would be short-lived, as Kyle Cyprian would connect for the Cougars 49 seconds later to tie the contest at 1-1.

Despite a plethora of Brockport scoring chances in the second period, 12 Nikolas Trakakis saves would keep the contest tied entering the third period.

Business would pick up for both offenses in the final period of regulation, seeing both teams score three goals each. Chatham would jump in front 2-1 just 4:07 into the third period before three unanswered Brockport goals.

Just over three minutes later, freshman Brody Seitz would light the lamp on the power play, thanks to an assist from Nick Reif to tie the contest at 2-2.

The Green and Gold offense would continue to produce, seeing Schuyler Flansburg capitalize on a loose puck 11:24 into the third to give Brockport its second lead of the contest (3-2). Brockport's leading point scorer, Manny Sanchez, would double the lead just 35 seconds later, scoring his first of the year to give Brockport a two-goal lead with 7:59 left.

The Cougars would rally back, capitalizing on an untimely Brockport penalty with Nick Cyprian scoring his second of the game to bring Chatham within a goal (4-3). 

Michael Roby would take over the contest for the Cougars, completing his hat-trick with the game-tying goal with 38 seconds left in regulation, and the overtime dagger to will the #15 team in the nation to an overtime win.

Andrew Haugh was strong in the Brockport defensive zone, blocking a game-high three shots in an excellent effort.

Dax Easter picked up the start for Brockport, making 26 saves on 32 shots faced. Brockport would finish the evening with a 40-31 shot advantage.
