BROCKPORT, NY - The Brockport Men's Soccer team's undefeated run came to an end at SUNY Geneseo in the Empire 8 Championship, 2-1, on Saturday, November 8th. The Golden Eagles finish the 2025 season 11-5-3 overall as the runner-up in the Empire 8 Conference.
Both goaltenders would control the opening half, with both teams unable to find the opening goal. Despite 12 combined shots (8-4 Geneseo), both goalkeepers would make two saves to end the first half. The Golden Eagles kept Geneseo off the scoreboard despite conceding four corner kicks.
Just over 18 minutes into the second,
Finn Sullivan would break the scoreless tie, scoring his first career goal, thanks to an assist from
Jaidyn Caccomo.Â
Geneseo would find the equalizer, with Dylan Thody scoring his 14th goal of the year to tie the contest at 1-1 with less than 15 minutes left. Each team would record shots in the final 15 minutes, with neither team finding the back of the net to send the game into overtime.
The Knights wasted no time in extra time, with Dylan Thody scoring the golden goal 30 seconds into overtime to crown SUNY Geneseo as Empire 8 Champions.Â
Each team would finish with five shots on goal, with Geneseo holding a 16-8 edge in total shots.
AJ Nelson's (L, 10-1-2) undefeated run came to an end, making three saves on the afternoon. Nelson was excellent in his first year as a starter for Brockport, allowing just 0.58 goals per game with 31 saves.
Ryan Mathis led all Golden Eagles with three shots, putting two on net.
