Brockport, NY – The women's cross country team earned five Empire 8 All-Conference selections for the 2025 season following the Empire 8 Championships back on November 1
st. The women's team showed out with a strong third-place finish with 83 points.
First Team:
Freshman
Salma Moumen earned her spot on the first team after running a strong time of 23:14.2 in the 6k race, securing an eighth-place overall finish and first for the Golden Eagles. Moumen was a staple of the team in her first year, starting strong at the Tom Balon meet with a fourth overall finish and second for the team. Moumen added a 19
th overall finish (second for Brockport) at Houghton and finished out the year earning hardware at the Niagara Region Championships with a 27
th overall finish (first for Brockport).
Second Team:
As a top runner for Brockport for the second consecutive year,
Ethne Degan earned second team after finishing in 11
th overall at E8's and second for the Green and Gold with a time of 23:19.7. Degan made a statement in the Tom Balon meet to open up the season, clinching third overall and first for Brockport, also earning her E8 Athlete of the Week. Degan went on to finish sixth overall (first for Brockport) at Houghton and 28
th overall (second for Brockport) at Regionals.
Third Team:
Emily Leo made her mark on the team this season as a senior, earning her third-team All-Conference. At the Empire 8 Championships, Leo secured a third-place finish for Brockport and 22
nd overall, crossing the line at 24:05.1. Leo made strong efforts the rest of the season with a 15
th overall spot at the Tom Balon meet (third for Brockport), and a 51
st place finish (fourth for Brockport) at the Niagara Region Championships.
Esther Nankumba concluded her senior season by earning third-team honors, having been a staple in Brockport's top seven. Nankumba had a hard-earned 26
th-place finish at the Empire 8 Championships from a time of 24:24.3, taking fourth for Brockport. Nankumba opened the season with a 24
th-place finish (sixth for Brockport) at the Tom Balon Classic, took 31
st (fifth for Brockport) at the Houghton Invitational, and finished out the year with a 45
th overall finish (third for Brockport) at Regionals.
Earning third team following an impressive last season with the Golden Eagles is grad student
Sierra Basco. Basco put up a strong race at E8 Championships, finishing in 27
th overall and fifth for Brockport with a mark of 24:28.1. Basco added on a series of strong finishes, including a 23
rd place finish (fifth for Brockport) at the Tom Balon Classic, a 23
rd overall spot (third for Brockport) at the Houghton Invite, and a 60
th place spot (sixth for Brockport) at Regionals.
