Brockport, NY – On Tuesday, the Golden Eagle softball team finished up the regular season with a split at home against Houghton. Brockport took game one, 3-0, and then the Highlanders stole game two, 3-2, in eight innings.
Brockport 3, Houghton 0 – Game 1 Final
In her final game as a Golden Eagle,
Fiona Gibiser (W, 4-4) got the win with a complete game shutout. The senior allowed eight hits and walked two batters, but allowed no runs to score and had six big strikeouts.
Brockport got on the board quick with both
Aubrey Ennis and
Riley Barrett coming around to score to open the game up 2-0 in the first. Both singled and came around to score after a Highlander fielding error.
In the third,
Natalie Faas drove home a hustling
Cece Rappleyea on a single for a bunt. From there on it was Gibiser and the defense doing its job to maintain that 3-0 lead through the finish line for the win.
Natalie Faas was 2-for-3 with an RBI and a stolen base.
Aubrey Ennis added another 2-for-3 outing at the plate for the squad. Riley Barret was 1-for-3 in game one of the set.
Brockport 2, Houghton 3 – Game 2 Final
The second game started much like the first with two quick runs for the Green and Gold. After drawing a leadoff walk,
Kellie Gentile and stole second to set the stage for
Olivia Simone. Simone blasted an RBI triple to center field to score Gentile. Immediately after,
Aubrey Ennis singled to right to score Simone for a quick 2-0 lead.
Houghton would work to tie the game in the fourth inning. The Highlanders scored a an unearned run in the third and a second one in the fourth to make it a 2-2 tally on the board. The defense and pitching did well to keep any further runs from scoring through seven innings.
Colleen Davis (L, 6-11) went a full 8.0 innings in the start, allowing three runs (0 earned) on seven hits and four walks. In the final game of her freshman season, she set a new career-high with 10 strikeouts.
Still tied at 2-2, this E8 contest went to the top of the eighth looking to decide a winner in extras. With two outs and the bases loaded, Houghton was able to drive in the go-ahead run for what became the final 3-2 score.
Aubrey Ennis was 3-for-4 with an RBI.
Olivia Simone had an RBI as well from her triple, going 1-for-5 with a run scored.
Kellie Gentile also scored a run, going 2-for-4 with a walk and two stolen bases.
Cece Rappleyea had a good showing at the plate at 2-for-3 with a triple.
Natalie Faas (1-2),
Grace Talbut (1-4), and
Caitlyn Dailey (1-2) all registered hits for the squad in game two as well.
The Golden Eagles will finish the 2025 campaign at 14-22 overall with a 6-16 mark as a year-one member of the Empire 8.
