Eldred Shatters Single Season HR Record, #12 Baseball Rolls Past Utica in DH Action

Brockport, NY- The #12 Brockport baseball team cruised past Utica in doubleheader action on Friday, May 2nd. The Golden Eagles improved to 33-3-2 overall and 21-1-1 in conference play following the DH sweep.
 
Game One: Brockport 9 – Utica 3 (7 Innings)
 
Drilling a three-run homer in the fourth inning, Zach Eldred (2-3, 2R) shattered Tom Kretzler's record for home runs in a single season (17, 2022). Eldred would go 5-for-8 on the afternoon, collecting three RBIs and scoring six runs.
 
Nick Ianniello (W, 1-0) earned the win in relief of Eldred, tossing three scoreless innings with two punchouts.
 
A strong second inning saw Utica jump out to a 2-0 lead, highlighted by a Josh Duval RBI double.
 
The Green and Gold were quick to respond, netting three runs in the top of the third. Following a Kyle Blake RBI groundout, James Dixon would clear the bases with a two-RBI double.
 
Following a Pioneer sacrifice fly to tie the game, Eldred would connect for his record-breaking home run, putting Brockport up 6-3.
 
Victor Alongi would follow up with a three-run homer of his own in the fifth inning, extending Brockport's lead to 9-3.    
 
Troy Leibert shut the door in the seventh inning, tossing a scoreless frame with two strikeouts.
 
James Dixon had a big day at the plate, going 2-for-4 with two RBIs and a run scored.
 
Game Two: Brockport 9 – Utica 3
 
Anthony Lapine (W, 8-0) stayed perfect on the season, pitching six innings of one-run baseball with five strikeouts.
 
Jason Story had a big return to Utica, going 2-for-3 with two RBI and a run scored, reaching base safely four times.
 
Kyle Blake (3-5, 1R), Zach Eldred (3-5, 4R), Frank Vanzillotta (1-3, 2 SB), and Jason Story powered the Brockport offense with two RBI's each.
 
Angelo Agro tossed a scoreless ninth inning, picking up a strikeout.
 
Up Next: The Golden Eagles will look to complete the three-game sweep at Utica on Saturday, May 3rd, at noon.
