Men's Soccer Edges Houghton, 1-0, in Pink Out the Pitch Match

BROCKPORT, NY – The Brockport men's soccer team earned a hard-fought 1-0 victory over Houghton in its annual "Pink Out the Pitch" breast cancer awareness match, as Ryan Mathis delivered the game-winning goal in the second half on Saturday.

The Golden Eagles battled the Highlanders throughout the contest before breaking through in the 66th minute. At 66:54, Mathis found the back of the net for his first goal of the season, giving Brockport the decisive advantage and securing the shutout victory.

Brockport's defense remained composed down the stretch, holding Houghton scoreless over the final minutes to preserve the one-goal lead. Goalkeeper AJ Nelson played a key role in the victory, providing a shutout effort.

The Highlanders finished with 10 shots, including seven on target, while Brockport recorded nine shots, with four finding the target. Nelson's seven saves helped limit Houghton's scoring opportunities and keep the Golden Eagles in front. Brockport also held a 4-2 advantage in corner kicks, creating additional opportunities in the attacking third. The Golden Eagles committed seven fouls compared to Houghton's 13, and neither team received a caution or ejection.

Trevor Lagarde (2 SOG), Ricky Campos (2 SOG), and Ryan Mathis (G) fired two shots each in strong offensive efforts. Lagarde and Matteo Burbige each played 90 minutes in excellent outings.

Mathis led the way for Brockport offensively, recording a team-high two shots and one shot on goal, including the game-winning goal. Trevor Lagarde, Peter Tinaj, and Ricky Campos also contributed two shots apiece, with Campos registering a team-high two shots on goal.

AJ Nelson anchored the defensive effort with seven saves in a complete 90-minute performance, securing the shutout and helping Brockport protect its second-half lead.
