Brockport Claims More Medals & School Records at Day 2 of E8s

Webster, NY – The SUNY Brockport swim and dive program finished up day two of the Empire 8 Championships on Thursday with more medal worthy and historical performances.
 
As the scores stand following the second day, the Golden Eagles are still in second place on the women's side of the action with a total of 309 points. The men jumped up a spot to take hold of third place heading into day three, owning a total of 272 points.
 
In the first championship final of the night for Brockport, Erik Parkes and Joe Keeney would both make the podium in the men's 100-yard butterfly. Clocking in at 51.34 (just .07 away from 3rd place), Parkes took fourth in the race. Keeney took sixth with his time of 52.93.
 
On the women's side of the 100-yard butterfly, Brockport claimed fifth-sixth-seventh in the finals to take three podium spots. Maddie Erhardt placed fifth at 59.95, Miya Vitale was sixth at 1:00.34, and Skylar King was seventh at 1:01.97.
 
Moving to the men's 400-yard individual medley, the Golden Eagles saw their first broken record of the night. Freshman Anthony O'Leary hit the podium with a sixth-place finish, setting a new school record with his time of 4:17.14. Teammate RJ Krupski also found a spot on the podium with an eighth-place time of 4:25.64.
 
Varshana Ramgulam gave it her all in the women's 400-yard individual medley to earn her spot on the podium for the event. She placed sixth in the finals heat with a time of 4:44.58.
 
Over in the diving well, Brockport claimed some hardware in the women's 1-meter diving competition. Freshman Brylee Weisenburg showed out with a third-place finish in the event to take the bronze medal with a final score of 415.45. Teammate Ashley Oswald also hit the podium in fifth place with a score of 388.55.
 
A pair of awesome relays closed out the second day of the E8 Championships, which sent a pair of silver medals the way of the Golden Eagles.
 
First up was the men's 200-yard freestyle relay. Joe Keeney, Zander Benz, Garrett Nanna, and Erik Parkes teamed up for second place in the event. Clocking in at 1:25.79, the group also set a new school record for the event.
 
On the women's side of the 200-yard freestyle relay, Brockport claimed second place once again for silver. Anna Lowe, Skylar King, Varshana Ramgulam, and Maddie Erhardt finished at 1:37.73 to earn some hardware to close the night.
 
Brockport heads back to the Webster Aquatics Center Friday for day three of the Empire 8 Championships.
