Baseball Downs Alfred State ,11-5, Pontari Earns First Win as Head Coach

Virginia Beach, VA - The Brockport Baseball team (1-5) finished off its Virginia Beach Trip with an 11-5 win over Alfred State (1-11) on Sunday, March 1st. The victory marked head coach Nick Pontari's first as head coach of the Golden Eagles.

In the top of the first inning, Michael Norton would continue his excellent start to the season. Norton would launch his third home run of the season to put Brockport ahead 1-0 early. Following a scoreless second inning, Cole Grazioplene would double Brockport's lead with an RBI single in the third, scoring Norton. 

Following a James Dixon sacrifice fly to put Brockport ahead 3-0, Alfred State would mount a comeback in the bottom of the fifth inning. Plating four runs in the bottom of the inning, a two-run homer would give the Pioneers a 4-3 lead. 

The Golden Eagles responded with a four-run inning of their own, taking a 7-4 lead. Josh Indek would set the table with an RBI single, followed by a Michael Norton sacrifice fly and a Kyle Blake two-RBI single, scoring Indek and Matt Mayer

Brockport would add insurance in the eighth, with a James Dixon RBI single and Matthew Coon two-RBI triple putting the contest out of reach. Coon's triple would give Brockport an 11-4 lead, scoring Cole Grazioplene and Blake Fortunato

Alfred State would threaten with a run in the eighth inning, but Logan Sajdak would post a scoreless ninth to secure the win for Brockport.

Connor Villano (W, 1-0) earned his first win as a Golden Eagle, tossing two hitless frames with three strikeouts. 

Kyle Blake led the Golden Eagles with three hits, going three-for-five with two RBI's and a run scored. 

Matthew Coon, Josh Indek, and Cole Grazioplene all reached base safely three times, with Indek and Coon each driving in two runs.
