BROCKPORT, NY - The Brockport Baseball team (2-9) came up short in a back-and-forth battle with Endicott (3-4) in the RussMatt Central Florida Invitational on Saturday, March 14th, 7-4.
Following three scoreless innings, Endicott would strike first in the bottom of the fourth, taking a 1-0 lead into the top of the fifth. Brockport would respond quickly, with
Josh Indek's RBI single tying the game at 1-1.
After Shea LaFleur's RBI single to put Endicott ahead once again, the Golden Eagles would take their first lead of the day in the sixth inning. Sacrifice flies from
Cole Grazioplene and
Matthew Coon would give the Golden Eagles a 3-2 edge.
Endicott would continue to fight, lacing another RBI single in the bottom of the inning to tie the game at 3-3. Brockport wouldn't go down lightly, with
Evan Brock drilling a RBI knock of his own to swing the lead back to the Green and Gold in the top of the seventh inning (4-3).
Endicott would sink Brockport's lead with a four-run bottom of the seventh, taking the largest lead of the day for either team, going up by three runs (7-4).
Despite drawing the go-ahead runner to the plate with the top of the ninth, Brockport would leave the bases loaded, with Endicott escaping with a 7-4 win.
Josh Indek had a big day for Brockport, going 3-for-4 at the plate with an RBI from the lead-off spot.
Blake Fortunato extended his excellent run of play, going two-for-three at the plate with two runs scored and a walk.
