Winter Haven, FL – The Golden Eagles split once again on Thursday down in Florida, moving to 2-4 overall. They defeated Plattsburgh, 1-0, to start the day before falling to Wellesley in game two, 5-3.
Brockport 1, Plattsburgh 0 - Game 1 Final
Aurora Sabins played the hero with a walk-off single in the bottom of the seventh, lifting Brockport to a 1-0 win to start Thursday's slate in Florida. With two outs and the bases loaded, Sabins stepped up clutch as a pinch-hitter with a solid single to center to score the game-winning run.
The first game of the day saw a pitchers' duel throughout, as the first six innings were scoreless on both sides. Brockport freshman
Liana DeValder (W, 1-1) had seven strikeouts with just one walk through 7.0 scoreless innings in fantastic starting effort. She records the first complete game and shutout of her collegiate pitching career.
At the plate both
Aubrey Ennis (1-3) and
Saylor Ayers (1-3) connected for a double.
Caitlyn Dailey,
Teresa Cotty, and
Paige Wentland all went 1-for-3 with singles in the game.
Brockport 3, Wellesley 5 - Game 2 Final
After a pair of scoreless innings to start game two of the day, Wellesley would end up with a 5-0 lead going into the seventh inning. The Blue put up one in the third, three in the fourth, and one more in the sixth.
Emily Harrington provided the highlight of the game for Brockport with a 3-run homer in the seventh inning. With
Saylor Ayers and
Caitlyn Dailey on base from drawing walks, Harrington blasted the first home run of her collegiate career.
Colleen Davis (L, 1-2) got the start and went 3.1 innings, allowing two earned runs.
Hadley Alguire finished out the final 2.2 innings of action as the reliever, giving up just one earned run during her shift.
With one day left before heading back north, Brockport heads to the Fortune Road Athletic Complex for two more contests. The Golden Eagles will face Bates College (10am) and UW-Platteville (12:15pm) to wrap up the trip.
