Brockport Softball Drops Final Pair of Games Down in Florida

Kissimmee, FL – On their final day playing down south at The Spring Games, the Golden Eagles dropped a pair of close games to Bates College and UW-Platteville. Brockport returns north with a record of 2-6, one week away from the start of conference play.

Brockport 1, Bates 2 – Game 1 Final

Friday began with a pitchers' dual, with Makenna Hart (L, 0-2) throwing in the circle for the Golden Eagles. Pitching a complete game for the first time in her collegiate career, she gave up just one earned run on five hits with three strikeouts.

Aurora Sabins (1-1) came up with another pinch-hit RBI on Friday to follow up Thursday's walk-off single against Plattsburgh. She connected for a double to tie the game up at 1-1 in the fourth inning.

Julia Hill also had a double in this one, going 1-for-3 at the plate. Teresa Cotty and Saylor Ayers both matched Hill, batting 1-for-3 against the Bobcats.

Still tied at 1-1 in the bottom of the seventh, Bates snuck in a run to steal the game with a 2-1 win.

Brockport 4, UW-Platteville 7 – Game 2 Final

The second-leg of the doubleheader pitted the Golden Eagles against the Pioneers from Wisconsin. UW-Platteville built a 4-0 lead in the top of the third, but Brockport would find a way to respond.

Julia Hill and Aubrey Ennis brought in a run, cutting the deficit in half for a 4-2 score. Platteville came back with three more runs in the fourth to create a 7-2 gap on the board.

Looking to chip away at the lead, Brockport's Reagan Myers (2-3) hit one up the middle for an RBI in the fourth. Teresa Cotty (1-1) followed up in the fifth with another RBI single to benefit the Golden Eagles.

The bats ran out of steam in the final two innings, despite some solid work in the field down the stretch. The Pioneers would hold on to pull out the 7-4 win.

Hadley Alguire (L, 0-1) started in the circle, going 2.1 innings with three earned runs and two strikeouts. Colleen Davis threw for 1.0 inning as well, before Liana DeValder closed out the final 3.2 innings. DeValder was strong in relief, allowing no runs on four hits during her shift.

The Golden Eagles are scheduled to be back in action on Thursday, March 26th with a doubleheader at RIT against the Tigers. The last set before the start of Empire 8 play is slated for a 3pm start to game one of the two out in Rochester.
