Baseball Defeats Oneonta 9-4, Extends Winning Streak to Five

Oneonta, N.Y. — The Brockport Baseball team (7-13, 3-0 E8) extended its winning streak to five games with a 9-4 road victory over SUNY Oneonta (10-9, 1-2 SUNYAC) on Friday, March 27. The Golden Eagles continued their offensive surge, recording another 10-plus hit performance to secure back-to-back regional wins.

On the mound, Camden Schaffer (W, 2-1) delivered a strong outing for Brockport, allowing just two earned runs over seven innings while striking out seven. After surrendering two runs (one earned) in the opening frame, Schaffer settled in, giving up just one run across the final six innings of his start.

Brockport struck first in the top of the first inning, as Michael Norton drove in Evan Brock with an RBI single to give the Golden Eagles a 1-0 lead. Norton extended his productive stretch, recording an RBI for the third consecutive game and finishing 2-for-5 with three RBIs. After Oneonta answered with two runs in the bottom of the first, Brockport responded decisively with a four-run third inning.

Evan Brock drew a bases-loaded walk to spark the rally before Norton delivered again, bringing home two runs with a single. Blake Fortunato added an RBI groundout to cap the inning and give Brockport a 5-2 advantage.

The Golden Eagles continued to build momentum in the fifth, plating three more runs. Fortunato came through with a two-run double to extend the lead to 7-2, and later scored on an RBI single by James Dixon.

Matthew Coon pushed Brockport's lead further in the seventh, extending his on-base streak to 15 games with an RBI single that scored Dixon and capped the Golden Eagles' scoring.

Although the Red Dragons scored the final two runs of the game, their comeback attempt fell short. Bryce Tyndell closed the door with a scoreless ninth inning to secure the victory.

Brockport was aggressive on the basepaths throughout the contest, with stolen bases from James Dixon (2), Josh Indek, Michael Norton, Blake Fortunato, and Matthew Coon.

Kyle Blake reached base safely three times, going 2-for-4 with a walk and scoring two runs.
