Brockport Pitchers Dominant in E8 Sweep Over Elmira

Horseheads, NY – The Golden Eagles took two on Sunday on the road against Elmira to start E8 play. A pair of dominant pitching performances gives Brockport a 2-0 mark to begin conference play with a 4-6 overall record.

Brockport 2, Elmira 0 – Game 1 Final

Colleen Davis (W, 2-2) put together a full performance in game one, throwing a 1-hitter on the way to a win. Pitching the full 7.0 innings, the sophomore struck out a career-high 13 batters in a shutout. She also made an impact at the plate, going 3-for-3 with a run scored and a triple.

In the first inning, Brockport got on the board for a 1-0 lead right out of the gate. Following a fielding error from Elmira, Julia Hill stole second and quickly moved around to touch home. The score stayed 1-0 until the top of the seventh. This time it was a leadoff triple from Colleen Davis setting up the run. Paige Wentland got the RBI with a single to center to make it a 2-0 score.

Brockport 1, Elmira 0 – Game 2 Final

Freshman Liana DeValder (W, 2-1) made an attempt to outdo the performance from Davis in game one with her own special outing. DeValder also threw a complete game shutout, allowing just two hits and had a career-high 10 strikeouts. She supported her own cause at the plate by hitting her first career home run in the first inning to score the lone run of the contest.

The Brockport pitchers combined for 23 strikeouts and allowed just three hits in this E8 doubleheader. The Golden Eagles added a pair of flawless games in the field, playing clean defensively with no errors in either contest.

At the plate on Sunday, Colleen Davis' 3-for-3 showing in game one and Liana DeValder's (1-3) game two homer highlight the offense. Catchers Reagan Myers and Emily Harrington both went 1-for-3 on the day. Saylor Ayers went 1-for-3 across two games, and Aurora Sabins was 1-for-1 with yet another successful pinch-hit. Paige Wentland had a hit in each game, finishing the set 2-for-5 with one RBI and one walk. Caitlyn Dailey connected for a hit in game two, going 1-for-5 on the day.

Tomorrow the Golden Eagles are home to take on Buffalo State for their home opener. The doubleheader at the Clark V. Whited Complex is set for a 3pm start.
