Baseball Completes Three Game Sweep of SUNY Poly, Extends Winning Streak to 13 Games

Utica, NY – The SUNY Brockport Golden Eagles baseball team (15-13, 11-0 E8) defeated SUNY Poly Wildcats (10-11, 6-6 E8) in Sunday's doubleheader on April 12, completing a three-game sweep and maintaining a perfect conference record. The Golden Eagles extended their winning streak to 13 games, holding the Wildcats to four runs or fewer in each contest.

Game One: Brockport 5, SUNY Poly 3

Michael Norton delivered a flawless performance at the plate in game one, going 5-for-5 with an RBI, three doubles, and a stolen base. Entering the series with a .333 batting average, Norton raised his season mark to .366 after going 8-for-15 across the three games.

Tyler Pohlman (W, 3-2) turned in a dominant outing on the mound, recording a career-high 10 strikeouts over 6.2 innings while allowing just four hits and three earned runs. After beginning the season 0-2, Pohlman has now earned victories in each of his last three starts.

Brockport opened the scoring in the third inning, as Josh Indek drove in Quinn Mahoney with an RBI single. Indek later scored in the inning on an RBI single from Norton, extending the lead to 2-0. Kyle Blake added to the advantage in the fifth inning with a sacrifice fly that brought home Evan Brock, making it 3-0.

The Golden Eagles capitalized on two SUNY Poly miscues in the seventh inning, scoring on an error and a wild pitch to take a 5-0 lead.

The Wildcats responded with three runs in the bottom of the seventh, but Bryce Tyndell (S, 1) secured the win with 2.1 scoreless innings, striking out four batters to earn the save.

Game Two: Brockport 15, SUNY Poly 4 (7 innings)

After a closely contested opener, the Golden Eagles' offense surged in game two, scoring in six of seven innings to secure a run-rule victory.

Kyle Blake led the offensive effort, going 3-for-5 with four RBIs, two extra-base hits, and a run scored.

Matthew Coon extended his hitting streak to 17 games, finishing 2-for-3 with two walks, four runs scored, and two RBIs.

Josh Indek reached base four times from the leadoff spot (1-for-3, three walks), adding an RBI and a run scored.

Evan Brock (two RBIs, one run) and Matt Mayer (three runs scored) each recorded two hits, with Mayer adding a double and a triple.

Brockport wasted no time getting on the board, as a Coon double followed by a Brock RBI single gave the Golden Eagles a 2-0 lead in the first inning. After SUNY Poly answered with a run, Indek drove in Mayer with an RBI double to restore a two-run advantage (3-1).

In the third inning, RBI doubles from James Dixon and Blake extended the lead to 5-1. Brockport continued to respond to each SUNY Poly rally, with Blake Fortunato driving in Mayer on a sacrifice fly in the fourth, followed by two runs scoring on a Wildcat error to make it 8-2.

The Wildcats added two runs in the fifth to cut the deficit to 8-4, but Brockport put the game out of reach with a seven-run seventh inning. The rally was highlighted by RBIs from Quinn Mahoney, Blake (three RBIs in the inning), and Brock.

Connor Furst (1.2 IP) and Ryan Johnston (0.1 IP) combined for two scoreless innings in relief to secure the sweep. Charles Searle (W, 3-0) earned the win, allowing just one run over 1.2 innings with a strikeout.

Brockport finished game two with 23 total baserunners, recording 15 hits (seven extra-base hits) and eight walks in a comprehensive offensive performance.
